There is still time to sign up to be part of our 5th annual Spooky Cruise. We see so many fun decorations up and would love to have you on the map! See below for more info.

The Tam Valley Speaker Series event with the League of Women Voters event was such a success last week! A big thank you to the presenters, the Parks & Recreation Commission and all who came out to learn more about the statewide ballot measures. We will have a fun event in November featuring local history, stay tuned for more details!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Brief Notes from the General Manager - Debris Day Report

I decided rather than provide quarterly updates, I would just include “Brief Notes from the General Manager” from time to time in the newsletter. “Brief Notes” would focus on a  “topic du jour,” which is Debris Day this time around.

We held our bi-annual Debris Day on October 5th. Special thanks to all the residents who were prepared to show proof of residency, it really helped move the process along. A special ‘shout out” to the mom and her daughter who made a second trip to pour us cups of homemade lemonade. Very tasty and, greatly appreciated, given how hot it was that day. I should have taken their photo. Oddly, I only have one photo from this past Debris Day which is of the shredding truck and a resident dropping off shredding on her bike😊

We estimate approximately 250 vehicles came to Debris Day. Of the 250 vehicles, approximately 40% also dropped off shredding. We also tried to count vehicle return trips (approx. 40). Of the 40 trips, one resident came back 7-8 times. We both lost count after 6.

At the end of the day, the shredding truck was about ¾ full. We estimate that is the equivalent of 250 banker boxes of paper. We collected approximately 50 cubic yards (cy) of debris (2 large trucks full), 3 cy of e-waste (2 full bins), 4.5 cy of cardboard (a lot of banker boxes), and 50 cy of scrap metal (over 12,000 lbs.).

For your visual reference, a cubic yard is 3 ft. by 3 ft. by 3ft., which is the approximately size of a washing machine. Imagine a stack of 50 washing machines.

The next Debris Day is scheduled for May 2025. Household Hazardous Waste Day is also planned for sometime in May 2025.

Stay Tuned for the Next “Brief Notes.”

Thanks for reading.
