State of the Legislature Event Recap

In our last newsletter, we provided a reflection on our State of the Legislature event we held in August, which brought together different community organizations to discuss issues, challenges, and opportunities and how we can all collaborate to advance our goals in the General Assembly.

Now, we have developed an executive summary of the event, which includes analysis, key takeaways, and next steps. You can download a PDF of the executive summary here.

RMHF continues to increase our focus on civic engagement, public policy, and advocacy in alignment with our Strategic Framework, as part of an ongoing effort to support our partners across Greater Richmond.

Daughters Film Screening

RMHF is proud to be a sponsor of an upcoming screening of the award-winning film Daughters, taking place Thursday, October 17, from 6 to 10:30 p.m. at the Altria Theater.

Daughters is a documentary developed by our longtime partner, Girls For A Change, and features different families taking part in a daddy-daughter dance, which allows children to connect with their incarcerated fathers, build their relationship, and forge loving bonds that help sustain families long after the program has ended.

Executive Producer Kerry Washington will be in attendance for a fireside chat, alongside Girls For A Change CEO and the film’s co-director Angela Patton. RMHF’s President & CEO Reggie Gordon will be facilitating the conversation.

To learn more about the Date With Dad Program and the film, you can read our blog post from last year celebrating the film and the new opportunities it provides for discussion, reflection, and action.

Virginia Health Catalyst Annual Summit

Registration is now open for the 2024 Catalyst Annual Summit, taking place Friday, October 18. This summit brings together over 200 stakeholders from across Virginia, including healthcare providers, community health advocates, social support workers, funders, health researchers, and representatives from the state and local government. This year’s theme is "It's All Connected," and attendees will explore the complex relationship between oral health and overall health, and the power of collaboration to drive positive change.

RMHF is an ongoing supporter of Virginia Health Catalyst. We are honored to call them a partner in our shared efforts to expand health and racial equity, and we look forward to participating in this year’s summit.

Partner Spotlight: Latinos in Virginia Empowerment Center

As we observe Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place between September 15 and October 15, and Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we wanted to take this opportunity to spotlight our partners at the Latinos in Virginia Empowerment (LIVE) Center

This organization helps Latinos experiencing sexual and domestic violence to safely get out of abusive situations. In fact, LIVE Center is the only organization in Virginia that both specializes in domestic and sexual violence and provides those services through bi-lingual and bi-cultural trained advocates. We are proud to be one of LIVE Center's longtime partners, and we continue to support their critical efforts as we work together to improve health and racial equity across the Richmond region.

LIVE recently released their 2024 impact report, and we encourage you to take some time to learn more about how they carry out their mission.
