Requirements:

  • Maintain a current aerial class package
  • Purchase a Rehearsal package that includes the Production fee for the Holiday Showcase 2024
  • Purchase Private Sessions to Construct a Routine


Details:

  • Holiday Showcase: December 1, 2024 3pm
  • Rehearsals will be at least once a week. Pick any "Apprentice" session on the Schedule for your practice sessions
  • Student must continue to take regular classes
  • Any unused rehearsal session cannot be used after Dec. 1
  • Costumes can be rented out from us or you can purchase your own
  • Private Session is required in order to construct the routine. We do not teach new skills during apprentice sessions.
  • Tickets to watch the show will be available online around the end of November.
  • Rehearsal and training sessions can now be booked.

Attention, aerialists gearing up for the Holiday Showcase: It's time to elevate your performance! We strongly encourage you to book private sessions with us over the next 4 weeks to refine and perfect your competition routine.

At Ruby Karen Project, we believe in the power of personalized training. For students with over a year of experience, our specialized sessions are essential. They offer a focused environment to hone specific skills, customize routines to match your unique style and strengths, and delve into various aspects of performing arts. These sessions are invaluable for boosting confidence and fostering self-discovery. They are especially beneficial for those preparing for both community and professional performances, playing a crucial role in artistic and technical growth.

PLACEMENT EXAM

Saturday, Jan. 11 & 18, 2025 2pm - 5pm

Mandatory to all apprentices, this examination is also open to all students for free. This is an assessment examination for leveling purposes (seven (7) levels: Beginners to Professional). It helps guide the student to sign-up for the classes that are appropriate for his/her level which ultimately provides maximum benefit to the student. Please email us your interest in taking this examination.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE EXAM?

  • Review your notebook/ record that contains all your lessons.
  • Review all the basic moves (see Whiteboard with list of basics)
  • Review fundamental originating moves (locks, straddle hooks, hip keys and inverted crochet leg wraps)
  • Discuss with any of our coaches about skills that you are having difficulty with
  • Pay attention to the proper grip, hand positions and form
  • Come to apprentice session to practice the execution and form
  • Wear proper attire so as not to distract you. No loose tops or exposed skin on the waistline, no shorts, no jewelry, and tie your hair, if long

Workshops will Open Nov. 1. You will be able to preview the workshop list by Oct. 25. Established educators and WCAAF judges will offer workshops in popular disciplines such as Aerial Silks, Aerial Hoop/Lyra, Trapeze, Rope, Straps, Sling and other Aerial apparatus, and Circus disciplines. These workshops will be accessible to all participants and will be open to the general public as well.

Over 20 workshops led by renowned educators will cover various apparatus and levels, with registration opening Nov. 1 and the schedule released earlier.

12th West Coast Aerial Arts Festival

Join Our Volunteer Team!


We’re excited to announce that the West Coast Aerial Arts Festival will take place from November 8–11, and we need volunteers to help make it a success! This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of the festival, gain valuable experience, and enjoy access to the performances. As a non-profit organization, we also offer community service credits and letters of appreciation for your contributions.

We’re looking for dedicated individuals to fill the following roles, both leading up to the event and during the festival days:

  • Photo/Video Editors: Help us create stunning content to showcase the event.
  • Social Media Manager: A creative and independent thinker to manage our social media presence.
  • Event Runners: Assist with various errands and logistics during the festival.
  • Drivers: Transport performers, equipment, and other essential items to and from the event.
  • Stage Assistants: Support backstage activities and ensure smooth performance transitions.
  • Performer/Coach Coordinators: Help organize and guide our participants.
  • Photographers/Videographers: Capture key festival moments using our equipment, ensuring proper handling and management of media.
  • Load-In/Set-Up/Tear-Down Crew: Assist with event setup and breakdown, including lifting and transporting items (20–50 lbs) using dollies, hand trucks, or other assisted equipment as needed.

We also have additional tasks, both before and after the festival, where your help will be invaluable!

As a thank you, all volunteers will receive a festival pass to watch the performances and be part of the celebration.

CONTORTION BASED FLEXIBILITY by Ruby Karen

Mon 6pm & Thurs 3pm

A GREAT STRETCHING REGIMEN based on contortion exercises including barre coupled with expert coaching sums up for an effective work-out. The session will extensively cover exercises that focuses on shoulders, back, joint flexors, muscle extensions, ligaments and body alignment.

You will feel free and loose by the end of the class. The instructor will adjust the exercises based on your range of movement, physical condition, limitations, and your goals.

WHAT IS THE APPRENTICE PROGRAM

The Apprentice program is geared towards recreational and pre-professional training in performing arts, both from a production’s front and backend. It is a contract that consist of technique classes in aerials and acrobatics combined with practice sessions. Supplemental benefits and opportunities include membership in RKP's performing team, the Orange County Aerial Arts (OCAA), demonstrations at several popular venues and community events including the OC Fair, Festival of the Arts - Laguna Beach, Newport Beach Film Festival, South Coast Plaza's Festival of Children, Thousand Lights @ Sherman Gardens, OC Fairground's Winterfest and more. The program also prepares the apprentice for a single competition event at the West Coast Aerial Arts Festival.


Additionally, the apprentice learns added skills not offered to regular students, including ground acrobatics, circus arts, contortion, hand manipulation skills, acro-adagio/ acro-gymnastic partnering, and dance movement in many forms.


Lastly, the apprentice gets to have a one-on-one goal oriented discussion with us and undergoes a yearly placement examination to secure academic growth and maturity in the specific discipline/s they have chosen. It is also in this program where the student is prepped for higher education or professional undertakings.

Mindbody Reservation and Cancellation Policies

We know that the Mindbody system can be a bit challenging at the beginning however here are a few tricks to ensure you can reserve your spot and cancel on time.

  1. Always sign-in under your name if you are the student or sign-in under your child's name. Contact us if you are having trouble setting-up your child's account.
  2. Most of our 4-class packages expire in 30 days of the 1st scheduled session (with exceptions).
  3. When purchasing a package, be mindful when selecting the 1st class of that package. You will not be able to reserve a date before that initial date you selected.
  4. Reserve 5-7 days in advance for a session, and if you know your schedule well enough, reserve for the remaining sessions of the package.
  5. Our cancellation policy is strictly observed. You will need to cancel 12 hours in advance of the session you are reserved in, otherwise your session will be considered redeemed.
  6. When getting on the waitlist, make sure that you had opt-in to received text messages and email notification so you will know when you have been admitted to the class. Once admitted, the session will be deducted from your package.
  7. Do not sign-into waitlist if you do not have a session to apply the class, otherwise we will charge you with a single drop-in rate.

If you practice these parameters, you will see how flexible and advantageous the system can be for you. We have opted to give you as much options so you can plan your training and be as efficient with your time.

Waitlist and Notification of Class Admission:

Please update your MB account to receive notification via email and text of admittance from your waitlist reservation. Here's how:

  1. When you log in, go the PROFILE and go to the PERSONAL column.
  2. There is an "Edit" button and it will allow you to add your Phone provider and make sure to enter your mobile phone to get text messages when added from the waitlist.
  3. Also make sure to update your email address and OPT-IN for our newsletter. This way you are up to date on all announcements and have an added source when figuring school activities, news, important announcements.
  4. Please add info@rubykaren.com rubykaren@gmail.com and lucachn@gmail.com in your email's safe list. This way, newsletters do not get dumped in your spam or junk folder.

ATTENTION: If you sign-up as a waitlist, please check its status within 12 hours before the session.

We have a 12 hrs. cancellation policy; Be mindful of our 30 day policy on most packages. We do not extend packages even if there are holidays or closed business days. Make sure to reserve your spot several days to a week before the session to ensure you have a spot.
