Dear FAEA Members,
As we move into November, I want to express my deep gratitude for each of you. To those who were able to attend our State Conference last month, your presence made it an unforgettable experience, and I hope you left feeling inspired and connected. Let’s keep that spirit alive by reaching out to those we met during the conference as well as those who were unable to attend, and continue building our smaller FAEA communities.
For those who were impacted by the recent storms—whether physically, metaphorically, or emotionally—please know you are on our hearts and minds. Your resilience inspires us, and together, we stand stronger. We are here for you and look forward to supporting each other as we move forward.
Mindfulness Tip for November: Practice Gratitude
-
Gratitude Lists: Encourage your students (and yourself!) to create gratitude lists. Reflect on the things that bring joy and inspiration, both in and out of the classroom.
-
Mindful Breaks: Use Fall break to unplug and recharge. Spend time outdoors, step away from screens, and reconnect with what truly matters.
Action Item: Advocate for the Arts
-
On Campus: Create a collaborative art piece that reflects what students are thankful for, and display it in a central location. This visual representation of gratitude can build community and highlight the role of art in expressing personal and collective values.
-
In the Community: Participate in the Great American Teach-In by inviting community members to share their experiences and skills with your students. This is a wonderful opportunity to advocate for the importance of arts education in a broader context. These collaborations enrich our students’ experiences and strengthen our professional community.
-
Nationally: The theme for 2024/2025 Youth Art Month is “Healing Through Color”
Strengthening FAEA Bonds
-
Express Your Gratitude: This month, take a moment to thank a fellow educator, mentor, or community member who has made a difference in your professional journey.
-
Recognize Outstanding Members: Let's raise awareness of the value of arts education by celebrating fellow members who go above and beyond in the arts classroom and in the community. Nominate yourself or a colleague for the chance to be featured in an FAEA Member Spotlight post on social media.
As we approach the holiday season, let’s continue to support each other, share our successes, and inspire our students to find joy and meaning in their creative journeys.
Together we are STRONGER.
With gratitude,
Latonya Hicks
