JOIN US: For a social gathering of Listen Learn Act and friends and other justice advocates to connect and support each other in this work of love. We'll hear from several organizations about their work in the community. WATCH: "60-Minutes" piece on The Clotilda, the last known slave ship to bring enslaved Africans to America in 1860. The burned ship was discovered in Alabama – not far from where many of the descendants live today in a town called Africatown. The stories of those enslaved Africans have been passed down for generations.

READ: The Philadelphia Orchestra is renaming its hall after Marian Anderson 75 years after she was turned away from performing at Constitution Hall in Washington, DC due to her race, an event that prompted Eleanor Roosevelt to arrange for her to give a historic concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial.

ATTENDThe world premiere of “Who Killed Alberta Jones?” on Saturday, July 13th at 6:00 p.m. Produced by Redline Performing Arts in partnership with Actors Theatre of Louisville, this original drama by playwright Larry Muhammad explores the remarkable life and tragic loss of pioneering Louisville attorney and civil rights champion Alberta Jones. This is a free event at the Alberta O. Jones Park - no registration is necessary. Seating will be first come first served. VISIT: The (Un)Known Project on the riverfront between 8th and 9th Street. There are newly dedicated “footprints” from Elders who’ve committed to Civil Rights. Learn more about the project and the event HERE


LEARN: About (and maybe visit?) the newly opened Freedom Monument Sculpture Park and National Monument to Freedom in Montgomery Alabama, the closest the U.S. has to a national monument to the victims of enslavement. Read more here

VOLUNTEER: Change Today/Change Tomorrow has organized a partnership with Trader Joe’s to collect surplus groceries and deliver them to the Feed the West offices for distribution. Learn more here


WATCH / LEARN: This inspiring story of two sisters who bought the plantation where their ancestors were once enslaved. Two Sisters


READ: The Metropolitan Housing Coalition, along with several other organizations, have worked together over the past two years to educate the public about Middle Housing, which is considered one solution to the lack of affordable housing in Louisville. The Middle Housing amendment to the Land Development Code would allow duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes, townhouses, cottage courts, and walking courts throughout residential areas of Louisville Metro. Read on for public comments when the Amendment was opened up for community feedback. These were often full of hate and misinformation.  Comments
