Debate Class Mock Trial

Debate students participated in a Mock Trial based on the Illinois State Bar Association’s 2024 High School Mock Trial case. The mock trial case involved three teenagers who got in a car accident, where the Plaintiff sued the driver of the car, the Defendant, for several claims arising out of the crash. Students on the Prosecution needed to prove that the Plaintiff was injured and that the injuries were due to the negligence of the Defendant, and the Defense needed to prove that the Plaintiff was not injured or that these injuries were not due to the negligence of the Defendant. Three teachers served as members of the jury, and students from other classes came to observe the mock trial each period. The jury ultimately decided that the Defense side won the mock trial!

Applied Zoology Herpetologist Visit

Today, Applied Zoology held its annual herpetologist visit from retired herpetologist and former U.S. Fish & Wildlife Officer, Jaime McInerney. Students saw animals like a raccoon, reticulated python, Cuban rock iguana, legless lizard, rainbow boa, and more! Riverside Brookfield High School is the only high school in the U.S. that receives this specific presentation from Jaime and the company Reptile Rampage.

Physics Boat Building and Racing

Physics students applied their knowledge in an exciting engineering project: designing and building boats using only cardboard and duct tape! Each boat had to hold one person and be capable of racing across the pool. To prepare, students conducted small experiments to identify factors that influence buoyant force. They then calculated the buoyant force of their boats and compared it to the combined weight of the boats and their captains to predict whether the designs would float or sink. After refining their plans, students constructed their boats and put them to the test in the pool!
