Fall 2024 NEWSLETTER

Providing "Hope for Life" for new and expectant mothers and babies.

Malta House promotes the dignity of God-given life by providing a nurturing home environment, support services and independent living skills to pregnant and parenting mothers of all faiths and their children.

Looking Forward at Malta House

As we approach the holiday season we’re excited to share some updates on how Malta House continues to empower the mothers in our care as we refine our program to better meet their evolving needs. The Bridge to Independence program is renewing our focus on equipping our moms with a strong foundation in vocational education and workforce readiness.

Our mission remains steadfast: to support each mother on her path and empower her toward self-sufficiency while strengthening the guidance and resources available for her success.

A Strong Foundation for Long-Term Success

Malta House has always been dedicated to nurturing a safe and supportive environment for mothers and their children. With the new focus on vocational training, we aim to provide them with the skills and opportunities needed to secure stable employment and create lasting independence. Through personalized career counseling, hands-on workshops, and practical training, each mother is encouraged to explore career paths that align with her interests and strengths, allowing her to envision a brighter, more sustainable future.

Guidance and Support Every Step of the Way

While vocational training is our latest focus, the core of our program remains unchanged and our commitment to each mom's journey to independence remains steadfast. Our team continues to work closely with each mom providing emotional support, financial guidance and parenting education - skills that are essential to help mothers thrive both personally and professionally. From resume-building workshops to job application assistance to mock interviews, we are here to walk alongside each mother as she builds her confidence and independence.

Celebrating Successes and Building Community

Each month we witness incredible transformations as our moms make significant strides in their personal development and gain confidence in themselves and their skills. We are so proud of the steps our moms are making. From new jobs to furthering their education, these achievements are a testament to their resilience and determination. Thanks to your continued support, Malta House remains a place of hope, growth, and opportunity.

Looking Forward

As we evolve to meet new challenges and opportunities, we are grateful for the support of our community. Your generosity and commitment make it possible for us to continue this vital work. We invite you to partner with us in making a lasting difference in the lives of these incredible mothers.

Thank you for being a part of Malta House’s mission to create brighter futures for families.

Meet our Moms!

Where it all began....

Kyra first came to Malta House in 2011, four months pregnant and raising her 16-month-old son. With the support of her Case Manager, she quickly found employment as a CNA. While she worked, her son was cared for in the Malta House nursery, allowing Kyra to focus on her goal of achieving independent living. Though balancing motherhood, work, pregnancy, and school was challenging, Kyra remained dedicated to her goals and made the most of every opportunity..

Kyra graduated from the Malta House program in 2012 and continued her education at Norwalk Community College, where she enrolled in courses that included English as a second language to strengthen her reading and writing skills. In 2020, she transferred to Bridgeport University to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.

Fast forward four years.....

In May 2024, Kyra graduated from Bridgeport University’s nursing program. Over the past seven years, she has worked at Norwalk Hospital, first as a CNA and now as a Registered Nurse. Kyra’s journey exemplifies how commitment and determination can lead to success. We at Malta House are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and know this is just the beginning of a promising career.

Thank you, Kyra, for being an inspiration to our current and future moms!

Congratulations to our new

Certified Nursing Assistant Serena!

Serena arrived at Malta House in May 2024 with her one-month-old daughter, seeking safety and a fresh start after escaping a turbulent living situation. Though English was not her first language, she was determined to build a better life for herself and her child. With courage and resilience, Serena enrolled in a medical training program to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Balancing motherhood and her studies, she dedicated herself to learning and overcoming language barriers, driven by the hope of providing a stable future and pursuing her passion.

Her hard work paid off when she successfully graduated from the medical program, which will also assist in a placement for her first job. Proud of her achievement, Serena invited fellow moms from Malta House to celebrate with her at the graduation. Inspired by her journey, many of the other mothers expressed interest in enrolling in the same program. Malta House beamed with pride as Serena not only transformed her own life but also ignited a spark of ambition in those around her, proving that change is possible with determination and support.

This is only the beginning of Serena's amazing journey!

As of today................

2nd Annual Fall Fling

Malta House celebrated its 2nd Annual Fall Fling on October 3rd at the Italian Center honoring our dedicated volunteers.

Malta House volunteers are one of the many reasons we are able to offer the services we do to current and former moms. They are always willing to help in the home and help our moms set-up for success.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!

Helping Our Community One Family At A Time!

Malta House has partnered with CT FoodShare and the City of Norwalk providing low-income families in the greater Norwalk area with food. While this has been a most rewarding experience, we will be discontinuing the partnership in order to focus on our Outreach Program that provides baby items such as diapers, wipes and formula to those families in need.

Malta House's Outreach Program will continue to provide families with baby items such as diapers, wipes and formula and starting in January 2025, we will increase our distribution days to two Saturdays each month. For more information on the services we provide, please refer to our website for details.
