Chariton Kiwanis celebrates Hospital Week
On May 17, Chariton Kiwanis had the pleasure of cooking pancakes to serve to the incredible staff at Lucas County Health Center. They were celebrating Hospital Week and the club wanted to contribute to the festivities by showing their appreciation in a delicious way!
Club members are tremendously grateful for the hard work, care and dedication that the staff at Lucas County Health Center provide to the community every day. Not only are we thankful for their unwavering commitment, but the club is also fortunate enough to hold weekly meetings at the health center. Members love their hospitality! Cooking pancakes was just one small way for us to express gratitude.

Ames Golden K conducts annual food program
The Ames Golden K Kiwanis Club recently completed its Fifth Annual “Putting Food on the Table” program.
The program started five years ago when club Board of Directors decided to formalize the partnership with three local food pantries, namely Bethesda Food Pantry, Food-At-First, and MIDA (Mid-Iowa community Action. All three have food pantries that serve local clients.
Nearly 500 pounds of non-perishable food items and dry goods were donated this year by club members. Cash donations totaled $3,300, which is the most raised in a single year of the campaign. Featured speaker during the campaign was Bergetta Beardsley, vice president for Philanthropy, Iowa Food Bank. Bergetta discussed food insecurity in Iowa and how it impacts Iowa children and families.
Since the inception of the program, more than 1 ton of non-perishable food and dry goods and $13,335 has been donated by club members.

Omaha Golden K participates in parade
It was a perfect day for parade. Temperatures were in the 70s, low humidity, a nice breeze and sunny sky. Omaha Golden K club proudly participated in Omaha’s fourth annual Memorial Day Parade last month and had lots of fun doing it.
Club members were in good company alongside other participants, including Miss USA, Miss Midwest and Mrs. Nebraska, the tomb of the Unknown Soldier (on wheels), lots of flags, lots of brass on lots of soldiers and even a couple of marching bands.
The club’s entry was number 58 in parade order, which meant the float passed the tent of parade organizer Patriotic Productions at 10:50 a.m.
Omaha Golden K member marched with a banner in front of a hay wagon, which was pulled by a shiny red tractor. Along for the fun were chair Ted Killham, wife Barb, Andy, Melissa and Molly Fox, Jack Pagel and Paul Springsted. Baseball kids from the Miracle League sponsored by the club rode on the hay wagon. Riding were Broty Barger; Alex, Ben and Carter Greer; and parents, Jill Barger, Tim Forsman and Anne Greer. Jerry Warner was the tractor engineer. All enthusiastically admitted to having a good time.

Ames Town and Country support Key Club project |
Carissa Andorf, a junior at Ames High School, is a three-year member of the Ames High School Key Club. Carissa has held various local club and district officer positions and she recently served the Nebraska-Iowa Key Club District as governor. Elected to lead the district in March 2023, Carissa chose Key Club International service partner Erika's Lighthouse as her Governor's Project and set a goal of raising $2,500 for this non-profit organization. Erika's Lighthouse works to promote an inclusive school culture around mental health through classroom education, empowering clubs, family engagement and policy and staff training.
Chartered in March of 1966, the Ames Town & Country Kiwanis Club has a long history of supporting Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs in the area. The club helped re-charter the Ames High School Key Club in 1989, with Ames High School teachers Keith Bailey and Phil Johnson serving as Kiwanis Advisors. Ames Town & Country also sponsors the Ames Middle School Builders Club and co-sponsors the Cyclone Country Aktion Club for adults with special abilities.
The Ames Town and Country Kiwanis Club raised $400 in support of the 2023-24 Nebraska-Iowa Key Club District Governor's Project. The club supports unbudgeted items with weekly donations to our "Larson bucket,” named by fellow club members in honor and memory of former Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis District Division 11 Lt. Governor Paul Larson.
It is a joy to work alongside the Ames High School Key Club on joint community projects and to see Carissa surpass her Governor's Project goal with over $3,100 in donations.
