“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.”

Letter from the Vice Principal | |
This week I live in a house divided. While some people in my home have enough good sense to root for the Apaches always, others work for the Marianists, the religious order who founded and sponsor our biggest rival school. Others still are only seven years old, and trying to make up their minds. The cats are 50:50. Such is my plight.
In the Gospel of Matthew Jesus said “no town or house divided against itself will stand,” a sentiment presidential scholars will recall Abraham Lincoln echoed in a famous 1858 speech. Or perhaps more famously, Seinfeld fans well know that “a George divided against itself, cannot stand.” So far my home has mostly been fine.
Among the many competitive events filling our calendar this week, two clearly stand out. The first is our Regional Volleyball Playoff game vs. Houston - St. Agnes on Saturday at noon, right on our home court. The other is our “circle the calendar” matchup Friday night versus long-time rival Central Catholic. We hope you can join us for both!
Regarding our big rivalry game (or any competitive event for that matter)…the only way we really lose, the only way our house falls…is if we choose to make the game bigger than our purpose. And our purpose is to love and glorify God in all we do. Most of us know someone on the other side. Let’s not let our desire for the emotion and fun of rivalry cloud the fact that everyone present in that stadium is a neighbor, old or current friend, may even live in your house, and if nothing else, is certainly a brother or sister in Christ.
I'm all for spirited passion so long as we remember we are all representatives of our Catholic school. Generally speaking, if we’re mindful of our language and remember to be respectful of all players, teams, schools and officials, as people of God, we're usually pretty safe. When you stop and think about it….just reading that sentence…seems like it shouldn’t be a big ask for any community, but especially ours. Bring the pride, bring the energy, bring the passion. And bring the Lord.
Let’s go pick up some DUB’s this weekend and have a blast doing it!
Roll Tribe.
Mr. Duarte

Addressing Youth Mental Health in the Digital Age: Screenagers Documentary
Thursday, November 14th, St. Paul Catholic Church, 1201 Donaldson Avenue San Antonio, TX 78228
The Congregational Collective in partnership with the H.E. Butt Foundation is proud to host a screening of the award-winning documentary Screenagers. This thought-provoking film examines the intricate dynamics of family life, addressing the conflicts that arise between parents and children regarding social media, video games, academics, and internet addiction. Through the lens of authors, psychologists, and brain scientists, Screenagers sheds light on how screen-time affects children's development while offering valuable strategies for adults to help empower youth in navigating the digital landscape and achieving balance in their lives.
Following the screening, we will host an engaging panel discussion, featuring clinicians specializing in youth mental health, a church leader, a parent, a youth, and a school administrator providing diverse perspectives on this critical issue.
