FROM PASTOR ANN

Bible Study:

Daniel 12:1-3

12 “At that time Michael, the great prince, the protector of your people, shall arise. There shall be a time of anguish such as has never occurred since nations first came into existence. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone who is found written in the book. Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the sky, and those who lead the many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever.

Hebrews 10:11-25

11 And every priest stands day after day at his service, offering again and again the same sacrifices that can never take away sins. 12 But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, “he sat down at the right hand of God,” 13 and since then has been waiting “until his enemies would be made a footstool for his feet.” 14 For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. 15 And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying,

16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them

after those days, says the Lord:

I will put my laws in their hearts,

and I will write them on their minds,”

17 and he adds,

“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”

18 Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.

19 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain (that is, through his flesh), 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us approach with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who has promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to provoke one another to love and good deeds, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Mark 13:1-8

13 As he came out of the temple, one of his disciples said to him, “Look, Teacher, what large stones and what large buildings!” Then Jesus asked him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left here upon another; all will be thrown down.”

When he was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately, “Tell us, when will this be, and what will be the sign that all these things are about to be accomplished?” Then Jesus began to say to them, “Beware that no one leads you astray. Many will come in my name and say, ‘I am he!’ and they will lead many astray. When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed; this must take place, but the end is still to come. For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will be famines. This is but the beginning of the birth pangs.

EVENTS & INFOS

Please remember in prayer the family of Pr. Tim Stadem (Jackson, WY) as they grieve the death of his father, Leroy Stadem, who died Wednesday, October 30. Leroy Stadem was 97 years old and served in the American Lutheran Church as well as the ELCA in South Dakota. Leroy’s funeral will take place in Sioux Falls, SD, Saturday, November 9.

Almighty God, your love never fails, and you can turn the shadow of death into daybreak. Help us to receive your word with believing hearts, so that, confident in your promises, we may have hope and be lifted out of sorrow into the joy and peace of your presence; through Jesus Christ our Savior and Lord. Amen.

Update: Hello Everyone: You may have heard that Pastor Tom’s new mobile home burned to the ground. (Our Pastor for Little Church in the Pines in Island Park) He lost everything except his cat and the clothes on his back and his phone. So very sad!!! THEN – when he was coming to Idaho Falls on Monday to try to take care of some paperwork and etc regarding the fire, he hit a deer and totaled his car. On October 29th, he had to have dental surgery because of a broken and then unfixable tooth. This poor man has really been hit hard. If you or your congregations are interested in helping him recover from these devastating events, this is the information.

GoFundMe

Venmo account is: @Tom-Shanor

OUTREACH

Dear Friends,

It is getting close to Thanksgiving, and we will be continuing our Community Outreach to support families in need. We are accepting monetary donations. We will gladly accept any amount of donation but we feel that the cost of a Thanksgiving meal for a small family would be at least $60-$75. In the past we have served 275 families last year. We were able to distribute $50 gift cards to WinCo or Walmart for each family. We plan to distribute $60-$75 cards this year. Note: The gift cards can only be used for food, no alcohol or cigarettes.

As in the past, the church will work with school counselors to determine deserving families and distribute the gift cards to the families in need. The counselors will designate a time for families to pick up the gift at their child's school. If you have any questions call Kelly Marshall at 208-589-1895

We would be happy to accept cash or check donations. The church secretary, Lonnie, is in the office Tuesday-Thursday 10:30-2:30. All donations need to be in by 2:30pm Tuesday Nov. 21.

WAYS TO GIVE:

  1. Checks need to be made out in care of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Please print turkey boxes in the memo line. Drop off at church or mail to 270 N. Placer Ave 83402
  2. Drop monetary donation off to Kelly Marshall at 3734 North 5th West Idaho Falls, ID 83401
  3. Give online at their Onrealm account.

We appreciate your generosity!

Sincerely, Kelly Marshall

BRINGING FOOD

Food can be a delightful expression of individuality and

creativity! Whether you choose to bring a simple dish that warms the heart or

an extravagant culinary creation, the important thing is that you feel inspired

to share. There are no strict rules about what must be served; instead, you

have the freedom to decide what resonates with you. The only rule is we can't

save leftovers once they hit the counter.

Your contribution, no matter how big or small, is appreciated!

ELCA

The day after the 2024 presidential election, Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton reflects on the many expressions of our church being woven together as strands of a large tapestry, even as individually people are experiencing joy or grief. She reminds us that regardless of who is elected president or to other leadership positions in our country, our call to be Christ in the world doesn’t change. “As we're moving through these next years, no matter what happens and what befalls … imagine all of us woven together and in Christ, and we will continue to serve the gospel and to serve the world.” CHECK OUT THE BISHOP'S VIDEO ON FACEBOOK.
