As the SS United States readies for her departure from Philadelphia, the SS United States Conservancy invites you to join us for a special Philadelphia City Cruises excursion on Thursday, November 14, to join friends of the Big U for a close-up view of the ship at Pier 82 before her scheduled departure. On Thursday, November 14, the SS United States is scheduled to be shifted from Pier 82 to adjacent Pier 80 at high tide around 11:45 AM. While subject to change, she will remain there overnight until low tide at around 7:00 AM on Friday, November 15, when she will be towed out into the river to begin her passage south. This luncheon cruise is scheduled to coincide with the SS United States’ move to her adjacent pier. Based on new guidance from Philadelphia City Cruises, we are unable to reschedule this excursion: We will gather together on November 14 even if the SS United States' move is delayed.
Guests will enjoy a buffet luncheon, which will include entrees, salads, and desserts served from the ship's climate-controlled interior or open-air outdoor deck. Complimentary soft drinks will be served and a cash bar will be available.
Boarding will begin at 10:30 AM at Penn’s Landing, 401 South Christopher Columbus Boulevard in Philadelphia, and the cruise will begin at 11:00. Nearby parking is available at Lombard Circle Parking Lot on Columbus Boulevard and Lombard Circle. The boat will travel downriver to the SS United States' pier location to facilitate viewing of the ship's shift to an adjacent pier. The cruise will return at 1:00 PM when passengers may disembark.
During the cruise, Conservancy board members and special supporters will share remarks and recollections. Stanton R. Daywalt, co-author of “SS United States: An Operational Guide to America’s Flagship” will also be available to sell and sign books
Tickets are $125.00 per person and a portion of each ticket sold benefits the SS United States Conservancy, including its future museum.
