Officials Designate The City Of Forest Park As A Purple Heart City

Last month, officials proudly announced that the City of Forest Park has been designated a "Purple Heart City," an honor that was conferred by the local chapter of the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Created in 1782 as a Badge of Military Merit by President George Washington, the Purple Heart Medal is the oldest military decoration in present use and is awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who have been injured by an enemy weapon, died in action or died from their wounds while serving their country. Through various collaborative efforts, the Military Order of the Purple Heart works to foster an environment of goodwill and camaraderie among combat wounded veterans, promote patriotism, support necessary legislative initiatives and provide service to all veterans and their families.

Public Works, E-911 Staff Recognized As First Responders By City Council

Members of the Forest Park City Council officially recognized both the city's Public Works Department and E-911 Division as first responders. In local government, first responders are often some of the first individuals who are called upon to provide essential aide and assistance in the event of an emergency. The recognition comes as more municipalities across the nation are acknowledging those personnel groups who serve on the front lines in order to render needed aid to residents and businesses impacted by local emergencies.

Public Notice: Temporary Closure Announced For Perkins Park

A temporary closure for Perkins Park, located at 5127 West St., is in effect through Friday, June 21. During this time, crews will be shutting down the recreational area in order to make way for renovations and the resurfacing of the park's basketball court. Prior to the upcoming scheduled renovations, signage will be installed to notify the general public of the temporary closure. If there is a need for the closure to be extended, another public notice will be issued. For more information, contact the city's Public Works Department at (404) 366-4720.

City Offers "A Healthier You Luau Bootcamp" For Legacy Residents

Movin' and groovin' with a splash of Hawaiian fun! Our Legacy residents had an absolute blast participating in our recent "A Healthier You Luau Bootcamp," which was held Starr Park. Attendees ages 55 and up were treated to a comprehensive fitness workout, yoga and hula dancing, with the event capping off with a nutritious lunch. A special shoutout goes out to our entire Recreation and Leisure Services Department, as well as all of our terrific community partners, for supporting our local seniors.

Congratulations To The Forest Park High School Senior Class of 2024

Congratulations to all the Forest Park High School Class of 2024 graduates! A little cloudy weather wasn't going to rain on this year's Senior Caravan and Parade. Dozens of graduating seniors, families and friends came out to celebrate the outstanding achievements made by this year's senior class. A special shoutout goes out to this year's Grand Marshal and the NCAA Women's Basketball National Champion, Sania Feagin, from the University of South Carolina.

City Celebrates National EMS Week

The week of May 19-25 marked the 50th anniversary of National EMS Week, a special observance period when communities across the nation take the time to honor the entire EMS profession and its importance in protecting the safety and health of our citizens. Forest Park's EMS personnel serve in a broad range of roles, from providing highly skilled care in an ambulance to serving as educators and practicing community paramedicine. Thank you to our incredible Forest Park Fire & Emergency Services Department. You continue to inspire us all with your bravery, dedication and commitment.

Forest Park Police Department Unveils New IMPACT Unit

The Forest Park Police Department recently unveiled its new IMPACT Unit. Primary duties of this specialized unit will include patrolling high traffic areas such as all city parks, shopping plazas and the Atlanta State Farmers Market. With the use of ATVs and e-bikes, the IMPACT Unit will also be attending public/private social gathering to help ensure the safety or residents and our business community. City Council Recognizes City Clerk and Municipal Court Clerk Offices

In observance of Professional Municipal Clerks Week, members of the Forest Park governing body recognized City Clerk Randi Rainey, MMC, and Deputy City Clerk Michelle Hood for the vital services they perform and their exemplary dedication to the communities they represent. The Office of the Professional Municipal Clerk is a vital part of local government that exists throughout the world and is the oldest among public servants.


City Council also recognized Forest Park Municipal Court Administrator Dorothy Roper-Jackson, along with her entire department, in observance of Municipal Court Clerks Week. The city's Park Municipal Court is committed to the notion that our legal system is based on the principle that an independent, fair, and competent judiciary will interpret and apply the laws that govern us.

Code Enforcement, Beautification Committee Host Block Party In Ward 2

It's officially Block Party season! The city's Code Enforcement Department, in collaboration with the Forest Park Beautification Committee, hosted a block party at Bill Lee Park. Residents and families were able to chat with Councilman Dabouze Antoine (Ward 2), city officials and fellow neighbors - all while enjoying free hamburgers, hotdogs music and plenty of entertainment.
