HAPPY HALLOWEEN

PESA Shares Tips to Stay Safe this Halloween

Halloween is a time for costumes, candy, and spooky fun! As families prepare to celebrate, PESA wants to remind everyone of important tips to ensure a safe and memorable holiday.

One of the top concerns this Halloween is fentanyl-laced candies. Fentanyl, a dangerous synthetic opioid, has been increasingly found disguised in common items, and awareness is crucial. The CDC warns that even small amounts of fentanyl can be deadly. This Halloween, it’s important for parents and guardians to be vigilant about the treats their children collect. Here are a few simple ways to stay safe:

  1. Check All Candy: Inspect each item before allowing children to eat it. Look for any unsealed, suspicious, or homemade treats and discard them if there’s any uncertainty.
  2. Stick to Trusted Sources: When possible, choose candy from familiar stores, trusted neighbors, or local community events. Many towns host trick-or-treat events where candy is checked and safe.
  3. Know the Signs of Exposure: Symptoms of fentanyl exposure can include drowsiness, confusion, or respiratory issues. If you suspect any symptoms, seek medical help immediately.
  4. Talk to Your Kids: Educate children about not accepting unwrapped treats or anything unusual.

At PESA, our staff have been trained on the fentanyl crisis and are here to support community members. If you or anyone you know is dealing with fentanyl-related concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Let's make this Halloween filled with safe treats, no tricks!
