Whether it’s print,

ebooks, or audiobooks,

Cary Library

has books for everyone!

Digital Demand

Digital demand at the library is increasing each year, and Foundation donations directly support funding of digital (and print) content.

Laura Bernheim, Deputy Director of Cary Library, shares insight into the print and digital content of the library's holdings.

Lexington Loves to Read

In the past year, Cary Library patrons checked out:

  • 573,001 print books
  • 72,745 ebooks
  • 46,156 digital audiobooks!

Why ebooks?

Cary Library patrons enjoy ebooks for their portability and accessibility. Being able to easily carry multiple books on one device and change the font size are just two of the features that make ebooks so popular.

Did you know?

The library's cost for purchasing an ebook is much higher than the print version AND an ebook license expires after a certain period of time or number of check-outs.

For the popular book The Women by Kristin Hannah, the hardcover print copy costs the library $16.50 versus a $60 ebook (expires after 24 months) and $60 audiobook!

"Allocation of our materials budget is a balancing act where demand and cost are driving factors. Thanks to donations through the Foundation, we are able to purchase more digital content without sacrificing other areas of the collection."

-- Koren Stembridge, Cary Library Director

Literary Cafe Highlight

On September 17, featured author Marjan Kamali of Lexington discussed her newest novel, The Lion Women of Tehran with Foundation Board Member Kimberly Hensle Lowrance before a captivated audience that filled the room to standing room only!

President’s Letter

Thanks to your support, the Cary Library Foundation is able to provide funds to the library to fund its digital library. Surprisingly to most, the licensing cost for digital access to e-books is far more expensive than their print counterparts and their demand continues to grow!

Your continued support of the Foundation directly impacts access to ebooks and periodicals. Thank you
