Ambassador Day at the University of St. Francis is a special opportunity for community leaders, elected officials and university partners to become more engaged in the university’s mission and further understand the importance of USF within our community. During the event (which includes breakfast), attendees will hear the State of the University Address by USF President Arvid C. Johnson, Ph.D.

Two USF Alumnae Earn 2024 Golden Apple Award Excellence for Teaching | |
Earlier this spring, the University of St. Francis (USF) announced that four alumnae had been named finalists for the 2024 Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching through the Golden Apple Foundation. The University is proud to announce that Alicia Carlisle ’22 (Turner Drew Language Academy in Chicago, Ill.) and Alyssa Milano ’11 (Central Elementary School in Plainfield, Ill.) have officially been named 2024 Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching recipients. Carlisle and Milano are two of ten 2024 Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching recipients.

IDHS Grant Leads to Two New CRSS Success Program Cohorts | |
Thanks to another grant from the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS), the Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) Success program at the University of St. Francis (USF) will continue to provide full tuition and wrap-around supports for students who complete its high-quality, recovery support training and supervised practical experience.
USF’s CRSS program, which launched in fall 2022 with an initial cohort of 19 students, will welcome two new cohorts this coming academic year (up to 20 students each in fall 2024 and spring 2025). The program trains individuals with lived experience of mental health or co-occurring mental health and substance use recovery to leverage their experience to support others facing these challenges. Tuition is free for accepted applicants through June 2025 through the support of over $1.14 million in state grant funding from the IDHS Division of Mental Health.

Panel Presentation “The Migrant Journey: Our Humanitarian Response” on September 26 | |
The Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate Anti-Racism Committee and the Office of Institutional Diversity at the University of St. Francis invite the community to attend a special panel presentation, “The Migrant Journey: Our Humanitarian Response” on Thursday, September 26, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the University of St. Francis’ San Damiano Hall (520 Plainfield Road in Joliet).
During the presentation, a panel of persons directly involved with migrants will give voice to their experiences. Panelists will examine the impacts of faith and racism on new immigrants and organizations engaged in welcoming the migrants to our area, while also identifying what supportive actions we can take. Conversation and refreshments will follow the presentation.

Mark Your Calendar for USF’s 2024 Homecoming Festivities | |
The University of St. Francis (USF) invites students, alumni, employees and friends of the university to mark their calendars for USF Homecoming 2024 festivities, which will take place during the weekend of September 27-29, 2024.
While the full agenda of events for the weekend is currently being finalized and will be announced later this summer, one event is already set – the homecoming football game. Join USF at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, as the Fighting Saints take on the Indiana Wesleyan Wildcats at Busey Bank Field at Joliet Memorial Stadium (3000 Jefferson Street in Joliet). Watch stfrancis.edu/hcrw for additional events as they are finalized.

American Red Cross Blood Drive on September 13 | |
The American Red Cross is experiencing an emergency shortage as the nation faces the lowest number of people giving blood in 20 years. Help those in need as the University of St. Francis (USF) hosts its next American Red Cross blood drive on Friday, September 13, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Assembly Hall Gymnasium at USF’s St. Clare Campus, which is located at 1550 Plainfield Road in Joliet. The drive is open to the community.
For an appointment, call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or visit redcrossblood.org and enter “60435” in the red “Find a Blood Drive” box on the home page. You can save up to 15 minutes when you donate blood by using RapidPass. Visit redcrossblood.org/RapidPass for more information.

USF Alumni Art Exhibition Open through October 3 | |
The University of St. Francis (USF) Art Gallery welcomes the community to enjoy its newly-opened USF Alumni Exhibition. The exhibition, which is open through October 3, 2024, follows other recent exhibitions including Roger Carlson: INNOCENT DAWN and Paul Erschen: LEACH FIELD.

Returning to the University of St. Francis this fall is Aoife Scott, an award-winning folk singer and songwriter based in Dublin, Ireland. Born into the legendary Black Family, Aoife, is an established artist in her own right, and at the very pinnacle of Ireland’s traditional and folk music scene. Aoife is joined by her longtime collaborator Andy Meaney for this night of music from the Emerald Isle.
