FROM PASTOR ANN

Bible Study

Luke 1:68-79

Words from Zechariah once he could speak again...

68 “Blessed be the Lord God of Israel,

for he has looked favorably on his people and redeemed them.

69 He has raised up a mighty savior for us

in the house of his child David,

70 as he spoke through the mouth of his holy prophets from of old,

71     that we would be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us.

72 Thus he has shown the mercy promised to our ancestors

and has remembered his holy covenant,

73 the oath that he swore to our ancestor Abraham,

to grant us 74     that we, being rescued from the hands of our enemies,

might serve him without fear, 75 in holiness and righteousness

in his presence all our days.

76 And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High,

for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,

77 to give his people knowledge of salvation

by the forgiveness of their sins.

78 Because of the tender mercy of our God,

the dawn from on high will break upon us,

79 to shine upon those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,

to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Questions:

What is a prophet?

Can you think of any present-day prophets?

How can we be prophetic?

Philippians 1:3-11

I thank my God for every remembrance of you, always in every one of my prayers for all of you, praying with joy for your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to think this way about all of you, because I hold you in my heart, for all of you are my partners in God’s grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. For God is my witness, how I long for all of you with the tender affection of Christ Jesus. And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more with knowledge and full insight 10 to help you to determine what really matters, so that in the day of Christ you may be pure and blameless, 11 having produced the harvest of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ for the glory and praise of God.

Questions:

Who would you thank God for and why?

How would you pray for them?

What do you think it looks like to be pure and blameless?

What do you think a harvest of righteousness would look like?

Have you thought about writing a similar letter to someone? What's stopping you?

Books have been ordered and will be distributed once in. We have a delivery date of December 5.

OUTREACH

Our annual Christmas Sock Drive is held during December. Thanks to our congregation in 2023, 278 pairs of socks were collected, plus some underwear and toiletries. With a $250 Thrivent grant, we were able to purchase an additional 330 pairs for a total of 608 pairs. Socks were distributed to the City of Refuge, Promise Ridge, the Haven, and Ruth House. Thank you to all who helped to make this Outreach project a success. The four shelters were very appreciative in receiving them. This year we are focusing solely on socks for women, men, and children.

On Tuesday Dec 3, Theresa received an email from Good Gifts. On Tuesday, and only Tuesday, because it's Giving Tuesday, if we purchased the farm for $715 we would get a 2nd farm for free! They had an entity that was matching gifts up to $100K. So Theresa made a couple phone calls to see if we could make this happen! Thank you to Steve, who said, "It is not everyday you get to say you bought the farm" and we bought two! God bless all of you!

However, we only raised $570 of the $715 needed, meaning we still need $145 to cover the cost of our farms!

BRINGING FOOD

Food can be a delightful expression of individuality and

creativity! Whether you choose to bring a simple dish that warms the heart or

an extravagant culinary creation, the important thing is that you feel inspired

to share. There are no strict rules about what must be served; instead, you

have the freedom to decide what resonates with you. The only rule is we can't

save leftovers once they hit the counter.

Your contribution, no matter how big or small, is appreciated!
