July 2024

Manna's Volunteer Newsletter is our way of showcasing the incredible work our volunteers do. Stay up to date on programs, upcoming events, and all the latest news.

We are officially midway through 2024 and what a year it has been so far. Our food pantries have been busier than ever and so far this year we have served 3,119 families. This is a 47% increase in families served compared to 2023 mid-year totals. A quarter of that dramatic increase can be a attributed to our new mobile pantry program that targets low-income and senior living facilities in Petoskey. The rest of the increase is due to an increase in need among our current pantry guests and an increase in new families seeking assistance. On average, we have served 10 new households every week at our on-site food pantry this year.

The need for food assistance is on the rise and we are grateful for our volunteers and supporters who are helping us keep up with the demand for food. Our incredible volunteers have logged over 4,000 hours already this year. In the last six months, our volunteers have rescued more than 99,000 pounds of food, assembled and delivered nearly 40,000 Food 4 Kids backpacks, and packed and gave out 712 mobile food boxes.

Thank you for all that you do to serve our neighbors that are going through tough times. It takes everyone working together to get people the help that they need and we couldn't be more grateful for our network of supporters.

The Manna Gala

We cannot say thank you enough to everyone who supported the Manna Food Project's Food 4 Kids program at our inaugural gala event! We want to thank all our event sponsors, our live auction donors, the best volunteers and board members in the world, and our unbelievably generous community for making such a huge impact in the fight against hunger.

A massive thank you to the Doll-Loesel Foundation for an incredible $100,000 matching donation for our backpack program. The wonderful gala attendees came out strong and exceeded the match by raising another $115,000! This funding secures the longevity of this program and will provide fresh fruit, whole grain alternatives, and nutrition education materials for the pre-k and elementary students that receive backpacks.

We believe everyone deserves access to nutritious food and we are beyond grateful to our community for making it possible to provide not only a larger quantity of these vital food bags, but a higher quality of food for children in our community.
