Remember to celebrate Homecoming safely
Here are some tips for celebrating safely:
-
Plan ahead! Stay safe by eating a good meal before drinking. Choosing a number of drinks and only having those drinks available will help you set your own limit and stay within it.
-
Stay with a trusted group of friends and keep an eye out for one another.
-
Don't forget to drink water! Stick to 1-2 standard drinks an hour and alternate alcoholic drinks with water.
Campus Observation Room, or COR, will have extended hours during Homecoming weekend.
The COR is a confidential, non-judgmental and voluntary space for students who have had too much to drink.
Extended COR Hours:
Saturday, October 19, from 2 pm – 7 am, until Sunday, October 20.

No guests this weekend
Please remember that guests are not permitted in Residence at any time during Queen’s Homecoming: specifically October 17 – 20, 2024. You can review the guest policy in the Residence Contract.

Residence Conduct Corner: Celebrating Homecoming
If you are celebrating Homecoming, please remember some of the key requirements of the Residence Contract that are intended to keep everyone safe:
- If you are of age, you can only drink alcohol in your room.
- Drinking games of any kind, including with water, are not permitted as they promote excessive and rapid consumption of alcohol.
- Alcohol in glass bottles (including beer bottles) is not allowed in or around Residence because of the safety risks if they get broken.
- Possessing and displaying items that promote unsafe alcohol or cannabis consumption (such as funnels, trophy walls and wizard staffs) are also prohibited because they promote an unsafe consumption culture.
- Cannabis cannot be smoked in residence or on Queen's property.
More information about the alcohol and cannabis expectations in the Residence Contract can be found in clause 4.10.3 and 4.10.4

The University District Safety Initiative is in effect
Be a good neighbour! Remember that during Homecoming the University District Safety Initiative (UDSI) will be in effect. Students issued summons for an offence under the nuisance party bylaw will have to appear in court and may be investigated by the non-academic misconduct board. Please celebrate responsibly. Learn more about UDSI here.
