Opportunity to Participate in a Research Study

Do you have concerns about the quality of your water?

If your answer is yes, there is an opportunity to participate in a research study focused on the quality of drinking water, especially regarding PFAS. PFAS have become an important topic of discussion, and this study aims to gather information from our community about your knowledge, concerns, and personal experiences related to the quality of drinking water.

The USC researcher for this study is looking for participants to complete a survey and take part in a 45-minute group discussion. As a thank you for your time and contributions, participants will receive a FREE PFAS water testing kit and a $25 gift card.

To participate, you must:

  • Live in the South or East Los Angeles
  • Have concerns about the quality of your water
  • Complete a survey
  • Participate in only one focus group

Once you participate, you will receive:

  • A FREE PFAS water testing kit
  • A $25 gift card
  • Instructions on how to collect and send your water sample

If you are interested in participating in this study, please email Mayra Rubio at mayrarub@med.usc.edu indicating your interest and the best number to contact you. You can also text (213) 677-9572.

Nutrition Tips for a Healthier Lifestyle

  1. Eat a Variety of Foods: Include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins in your diet to ensure balanced nutrition. Learn more from the CDC.
  2. Stay Hydrated: Drinking enough water is essential for overall health. Aim for 8-10 glasses per day, and more if you are physically active. Check hydration guidelines from NIH.
  3. Limit Processed Foods: Processed foods often contain added sugars, unhealthy fats, and excess sodium. Opt for fresh, whole foods to support your health and reduce risks of chronic diseases. Nutrition Fact: The American Heart Association recommends limiting added sugars to no more than 25 grams (6 teaspoons) per day for women and 36 grams (9 teaspoons) for men. Learn more here.
  4. Portion Control: Be mindful of portion sizes to prevent overeating, especially when eating out. Use smaller plates or bowls to help control portions. Get tips from the NIH.
  5. Choose Healthy Fats: Opt for unsaturated fats found in olive oil, nuts, and avocados, and reduce intake of saturated and trans fats. Explore healthy fat options from the NIH.
