Message from our Center Director

With the new semester underway, we are excited to unveil new projects and collaborations within our community. The Csomay team is enthusiastic about sharing our recent efforts and what you can expect in the coming months.


This month’s newsletter highlights key aspects of the Csomay Center’s strategic plan to build and sustain diverse partnerships and collaborative networks. Inside, you will discover a link to our 2023-2024 Impact Report and meet another recipient of the University of Iowa Center for Advancement’s (UICA) Eight Over 80 award. The UICA award represents Iowa alumni making an impact in their community. You will also read updates on our Optimal Aging Initiative. Additionally, we provide a community resource and a sneak peek of our inaugural podcast.


In all our efforts, our mission remains steadfast: to foster optimal aging and enhance the quality of life for older adults and their caregivers.

Meet Community Member and Eight Over 80 Award Recipient

Pam Willard

Pam Willard is a dedicated community health advocate who has impacted communities across multiple states and even worked in Slovakia. With a background in nursing and public health, she has assisted diverse populations, from new mothers in California to older adults in Iowa. As an Eight Over 80 recipient, Pam remains hopeful about the future and continues to showcase her enthusiasm and Hawkeye spirit in her work.

The Optimal Aging Initiative with Jen Jones

This summer was filled with meaningful connections, highlighted by the launch of an adult child caregiver’s support group and Jen’s participation in Grandparent University. In August, partnerships led to successful events like the Stanley Sage event and a Healthy Aging Fair, with Jen and Jeff Kellbach making their radio debut on KCJJ’s Senior Talk. Community Resources

Complex Care in the Community


Complex Care in the Community (CCIC) is a specialized group founded in 2016, comprised of clinical faculty nurses from the University of Iowa College of Nursing who have extensive experience practicing in community based settings with people with complex health care issues.

The Csomay Center team has started a podcast!
