1967 Jaguar 420
245 HP 4.2L Inline DOHC Six Engine
Three Speed Automatic Transmission
Serial No. P1F26137BW
50,878 Miles
The Jaguar 420 (pronounced "four-twenty") and its Daimler was introduced at the October 1966 London Motor Show and produced for two years as the ultimate expression of a series of "compact sporting saloons" offered by Jaguar.
According to ProfessCars™ estimation, this Jaguar is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in 9.8 sec, from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.3 sec, from 0 to 160 km/h (100 mph) in 25.9 sec, from 0 to 200 km/h (124 mph) in 75.1 sec and the quarter mile drag time is 17.2 sec. More importantly perhaps, it cruises effortlessly on the highway at 75 mph, quietly and comfortably, tracking straight and true.
Owned since June, 2007, this 420 is equipped with power steering and brakes, AM/FM/SW radio, and the rare optional factory air conditioning (converted to R134a, recently recharged and blowing cold, 470F at output.). In 2009 it received a thorough freshening of the driveline, suspension, brake and other functions, with new parts totaling $2,900 (not including labor). In 2018, the complete brake system was serviced by Muncie Imports & Classics, Inc. in Muncie, IN, replacing the master cylinder, hoses, pads, and fluid (DOT 4). A Pertronix Ignition kit with coil, and a modern spin-on oil filter have been added. During its 17 years of current ownership, it has been driven regularly and treated to proper maintenance and everything it has needed. Other than the above mentioned items, the car is believed to be original. Tires are five Vredestein Sprint Classics, 185 HR15 91H, from Nov. 2018, still in excellent condition, on the original wire wheels.
Included: All parts and service records and receipts since 2001; original spare wheel (with modern tire), jack, tool kit, owner’s manual, service manual (both car and air conditioning system), Lucas parts manual, diagrams, many magazines and articles. The two bins of spares that come with the car include two new front grilles, a new steering wheel & center bezel, two additional radios, three clocks (all work!), and more.
This car is believed to be only one of 9,615 made, and one of only 976 for the U.S. market. Disclosures: There is a dent in the passenger side front fender, on its top, near the headlight, and a split in the front seat cushion bolster leather. The driver side/left (only) directional signal is not working, but is planned to be fixed. Everything else works as it should.
This car and its owner have participated in JCNA (Jaguar Clubs of North America, e.g., in their Concours d’Elegance Champion Division, earning a net score of 94.33/100.0, First in Class C-9, and Jaguar Affiliates Group (JAG) of Michigan events. In summary, this is a fine old classic Jaguar 420 sedan/saloon, impressive for its years, unexpectedly reliable and fit for driving, showing and enjoying.
