The SS United States Conservancy has just received word from Okaloosa County that the departure of the SS United States from Philadelphia has been delayed. Okaloosa County is monitoring a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico that could impede safe delivery of the vessel to its destination in Mobile, Alabama, and is finalizing complex arrangements. A new date has not been set but will be shared as soon as it is finalized. Complete details on the County's announcement can be found below.
While the SS United States will not be making her departure from Philadelphia, the SS United States Conservancy will continue to host a special Philadelphia City Cruises excursion on Thursday, November 14, at which friends of the Big U will gather for a close-up view of the ship at Pier 82 from the Delaware River.
During the cruise, Conservancy board members and special supporters will share remarks and recollections. Guests on this special excursion will enjoy a buffet luncheon, which will include entrees, salads, and desserts served from the ship's climate-controlled interior or open-air outdoor deck. Complimentary soft drinks will be served and a cash bar will be available. Tickets are $125.00 per person and a portion of each ticket sold benefits the SS United States Conservancy's future museum.
