Gratitude – Multigenerational Thanksgiving Service

Rev. Dr. Debra Haffner

Sunday, November 124 2024 at 10:15am

Join Rev. Debra for a multigenerational service on gratitude. Children and youth especially welcome. We will look at what it means to be deeply thankful, even in difficult times. We will celebrate the season with a juice and cornbread sharing ritual.

Take Action

Many of us are feeling deep concern about the impact of the election on our neighbors. Here is one action you can take right now to affect change: Urge your House Member to vote NO on HR 9495, the "nonprofit killer".

UUSJ (UUs for Social Justice) explains:

H.R. 9495 could allow the federal executive to investigate, harass, and, in effect, shutter any nonprofit organization based on unilateral accusations of wrongdoing. It provides a poorly checked opportunity to strip them of their tax-exempt status and thus dismantle a civil society entity. This includes news outlets, universities, and civil liberties organizations

This could also include organizations like UUSJ and other nonprofit entities like our congregations.

Take Action: Call (preferable) or email your House Representative and demand they vote "No" on HR 9495. Speak from your UU values or use these talking points:

  • Vote no on HR 9495 as it is legislation that will stifle free speech, target political opponents, and punish groups
  • It allows for the executive branch to dismantle any nonprofit without due process
  • HR 9495 does not keep us safe; instead, it can be used to punish political advocacy and target nonprofit organizations that express viewpoints the government doesn't like

A VERY BIG Thank You to Dr. Kevan Hartshorn for a very valuable presentation this afternoon on the rapidly developing treatment approaches for many cancers. He took us through interesting cancer fighting cellular developments: blockers, use of targeting inhibitors or the awakening of the body's own immunity antibodies and how these three emerging medical approaches can work, each to match the needs of specific cancers.

Thank you, Kevan, for these new understandings!!
