The Judiciary met Sept. 16 to approve minutes, listen to member reports and address new business. There were no closing comments.

BUSINESS & FINANCE COMMITTEE

Tuesdays - 3:30 p.m.

The Business & Finance Committee (BFC) met Sept. 17 to approve its minutes and hear member reports. Closing comments were heard from Achacon.

  • Student Travel Fund Grant, David Boehmer, 2024 American Ornithological Society Meeting – STRICKEN
  • Student Travel Fund Grant, Trevor Hughes, 2024 Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) Annual Meeting – PASSED
  • Jornada de Danza UCA: Viva Danza! Festival – PASSED


Reports:

  • Andre Achacon, ASI Vice President of Finance – Reminded that Fiscal Certification Trainings are ongoing and to check Events & Orgs for the remaining fall semester dates. Stated they are working on bringing the College of Business (COB) faculty into the Financial Empowerment Conference. Clarified an additional $1,000 in CYUF funding.
  • ASI Senate Representatives – Regarding the next Senate meeting, they stated they will receive two resolutions: SR#2025-02 Students Helping and Reaching Everyone (SHARE) and SR#2025-03 ASI Board of Directors Urge California Governor Gavin Newsom to Sign Assembly Bill 2586 (Opportunity for All).
  • CSULB Representatives – Regarding the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2024, they stated ASI will follow LBSU's Academic Senate policy statement regarding unmanned aircraft systems. Clarified that Students/organizations will need to go through the University's Purchasing Department to confirm eligibility for a drone purchase.
  • Dr. Miles Nevin, ASI Executive Director – Congratulated Business Office's Kristy Nguyen on their recent birth of a baby girl.

Thursdays - 3:30 p.m.


Lobby Corps met Sept. 19 to approve minutes, discuss both new/unfinished business and hear member reports. There were no closing comments.

  • ASI Vice President of Finance – Stated they are promoting grant funding opportunities and announced meetings that they attended/upcoming. Provided updates for the following items:

  • Financial Empowerment Conference

  • Board meeting
  • Future U planning
  • ASI Chief Diversity Officer – Provided updates for the Commissioner 1-1 event, Cabinet and student concerns. Stated they are organizing Culture Fest and Connect with Your Commissioner events. Announced Connect with Your Commissioner, LGBTQIA+ Resource Tabling and Outober.
  • Beach Pride Events – Announced the following information for various events:
  • Week of Welcome included 327 participating organizations and departments.
  • Smorgasport had 4,911 attendees.
  • Latine Cultural Welcome had 200+ attendees.
  • Connect with Your Commissioner is Sept. 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the USU North Lawn.
  • Paint and Sip is Sept. 24 from 12 to 2 p.m.
  • Trivia Night is Sept. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • Beach Bonding Night is Sept. 25 from 5 to 8 p.m.
  • CSULB 75th Anniversary (Student Zone) is Sept. 28 from 3 to 8 p.m.
  • Outober Kickoff is Oct. 2.
  • Movies on the House ("Scream") is Oct. 3.
  • ASI at-Large Senator Reports – Reviewed work completed in their respective communities, current projects/initiatives and student concerns.
