COUNCIL APPROVES RESOLUTION URGING PHILADELPHIA MAYOR TO HOLD PROPERTY OWNERS ACCOUNTABLE FOR LATE NIGHT BOOM PARTIES

Sleepless nights with rattling windows and nonstop bass from oversized stereo systems are just some of the complaints reported by Maple Shade residents to the Maple Shade Police Department and the Township Manager's office on a weekly basis. These issues are related to the Boom Parties that began a few years ago along the Delaware River throughout Philadelphia. In support of Senator Troy Singleton and other Burlington County Commissioners' letter to Philadelphia Mayor Parker, the Township Council adopted their own resolution urging the Mayor to take additional action and hold the property owners of the late-night locations accountable.

The resolution also asks neighboring communities to follow suit and approve similar resolutions. The hope is with the quality-of-life initiatives recently initiated by Mayor Parker in combination with additional measures and consequences, County and Local Officials throughout South Jersey can work together to put an end to the late night nuisance.

INDEPENDENCE DAY FESTIVITIES START OFF WITH A BANG!

On Saturday June 29th, residents lined Main Street celebrating our nation’s Independence Day. Decorated cars, string bands, community groups and other local organizations participated in the Annual Independence Day Parade.

Later that evening, the sky was lit up with fireworks as spectators were dazzled with rockets and bursts as we closed out the day’s festivities.

HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!

POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Maple Shade Police Department would like to congratulate our Senior Citizen Police Academy Class of 2024. These seniors attended 6 weeks of training and lectures coordinated and hosted by the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department. Special thank you to Joseph Matthews and Jackie Moore of the BCSD and the Mews for providing the venue for all of the classes.

On June 4, 2024, the Hope One Bus visited Maple Shade on June 4 to provide support for those needing assistance with addiction, homeless and mental health issues.

Random Acts of Kindness: The Maple Shade High School Baseball team restocked the Maple Shade Food Bank pantry, simply because they saw a need and wanted to do something for the community. In return, the Maple Shade Police Department gave them a pizza party. Thank you to these amazing young men for their random act of kindness!

The men and women of the Maple Shade Police Department Family participated in the 2024 Special Olympics Torch Run on June 7, 2024. This run has been going strong since 1981. Law enforcement members and their families, known as “Guardians of the Flame”, as well as Special Olympic athletes, carry the “Flame of Hope”, hundreds of miles into the Opening Ceremonies of local competitions.

There are over 97,000 law enforcement officers who carry the torch annually. Financial contributions are made for every runner in the event to benefit Special Olympics. Thank you to our Maple Shade Guardians of the Flame!

A lucky birthday boy received a special visit from Officers Michael Maiden and Zachary Sheppard, complete with lights and sirens! Party goers had the opportunity to check out the patrol vehicle and pose for some photographs.

School is out for summer and so are the children of our community. The Maple Shade Police Department would like to remind you to SLOW DOWN IN TOWN

Parents, please communicate with your children. Get to know their friends and acquaintances. Know where they are at all times and who they are with. We would like all of our children to have a safe summer!

WATER & SEWER UTILITIES

Water Update

The annual Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) is available online. To view the report please click HERE.

As we are now into July, with the temperatures soaring as high as they have been, please keep in mind to practice using water efficiently to reduce any unnecessary water usage.

Some easy ways to conserve water are as simple as taking shorter showers, watering your lawn only when it needs, only run a full dishwasher or washing machine, and things of that nature.

Water System Improvements on County Ave, between Fellowship and Maple, are scheduled to begin in July and expected to be completed in August. Please use caution around the area during those times.

Sewer Update

The utility is currently anticipating the delivery and installation of one of our two Screw Pumps at the Wastewater Treatment Plant, that were shipped back to the manufacture in Atlanta, for reconditioning in January.

Our crews will be continuing preventative maintenance cleaning of the sewer mains in July, between the hours of 8AM-2PM. Please use caution around our work crews. Thank you for your cooperation.

Sustainable Maple Shade is proud to announce that the Maple Shade Community Garden is now open for planting. There are a limited number of plots available, so grab yours today by clicking HERE. Help protect our waterways, Adopt a Drain near you!

Volunteer fifteen minutes, twice a month, for cleaner waterways and a healthier community. Storm drains flow directly to our local waterways, acting as a conduit for trash and organic pollutants. Clean Communities in conjunction with Sustainable Maple Shade is asking residents to adopt a storm drain in their neighborhood and keep it clear of leaves, trash, and other debris to reduce water pollution. Want to know more? Visit http://nj.adopt-a-drain.org/.
