Managing Mental Health Around the Holidays
There are various reasons why your days may not be merry and bright around the holiday season. It can be the jam-packed social calendar, deadlines at work, the loss of a loved one, sunless winter days, or all of the above. According to the American Psychological Association and NAMI, 38% of people report higher stress during the holidays, and 64% of individuals with mental illness feel their conditions worsen.
However, there are ways in which we can prepare ourselves and hopefully deflect some of the increased stress of the holidays. It’s important to realize that we have more control than we think. Check out the signs and suggestions here to prepare for this holiday season.

Our vision at 1N5 is for a community and world with mental wellness for all. We partner with local schools and universities to normalize mental health and break down the barriers preventing our youth from seeking help. Collaborating with administrators, counselors, and teachers on a needs assessment and climate survey, we create a customized long-term strategic plan for each school. We equip schools with the tools to implement mental health programming that becomes embedded into the school culture and impacts the entire school community.
For more information about the 1N5 School Partnership Program, including how to start a program relationship, please contact Sara Utecht, School Program Director, at sara_utecht@1n5.org.
