Could We Be Entertaining Angels?

In Hebrews 13:2, we are reminded to "not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it." This powerful verse captures the essence of what it means to extend grace through hospitality, a theme that resonates deeply with our recent experiences at UMCG.

"The Story Begins" -- Mark 1: 14-39

Mark’s gospel wastes little time with back story. Mark launches right out of the gate with Jesus’ powerful message and miraculous deeds. Jesus goes from small-town preacher to billboard chart-topper in just the first chapter. Perhaps that’s because what Jesus has to say changes everything. Join us as we begin exploring the stories of Jesus.

Do you know someone who would like to work with our youngest children in the nursery on Sunday mornings? We have a paid position of Nursery Assistant available to work with Dr. Greg in managing the nursery care during worship. We anticipate the time commitment to be about 2.5 hrs. every Sunday, and the pay will be minimum wage. This will provide great childcare experience and the ability to develop leadership skills. Click here for a comprehensive job description.

  • Our next Church Council meeting is Tuesday, June 11.
  • Due to the busyness of this time of year, we've decided to combine our May and June meetings.
  • As always, our Council meetings are hybrid, and all are welcome to attend in person or on zoom.

TAKE A STROLL DOWN MEMORY LANE . . .

Do YOU have pics like these, showing one of our annual Memorial Day Pancake Breakfasts or our Swedish food booth at Swedish Days?

In anticipation of celebrating our 185th Anniversary this September, we are trying to collect as many visual memories (photos or movies) that we can to help us create some historical exhibits. Please look through your old photo albums and if you find a pic, bring it in to church and we will scan it and give it right back to you! Thanks in advance!

Mark your calendar! We will be hosting our Swedish Days food booth from the afternoon of Wednesday, June 19 to Sunday June 23. Come once, come often to get your fill of Swedish sausage, Swedish meatballs, Swedish desserts, and other delights!

Our booth will be opening at 1:00 on Wednesday, open during the week from 10 am-10 pm, and closing at 4 pm Sunday. As usual, we will need help from everyone in the church to staff the booth during these times, set up on Monday evening, decorate it on Tuesday evening, and tear it down and put things away at the end of the week.  To get the work shift you prefer, sign up early here!

VOLUNTEER FOR SWEDISH DAYS

UMCG's Caregivers Support Group is meeting next Thursday, June 13 at 10 am in the Parlor.

This group is a safe place to talk to others who truly understand the sometimes lonely, confusing and frightening road of caregiving.

For additional information, please email Nancy Harrington. This group is open to anyone in our community who is a caregiver.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH--DON'T FORGET TO SIGN UP FOR VBS!

As summer swings into full gear, so does grilling season! Mike (pictured), who is a Lazarus House worker, shared how much their guests are looking forward to summertime fare.

This week, our dinner volunteers spread some joy and made that wish come true by delivering grilled brats, burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, and more to hungry families and individuals.

However, our sign-up list is looking a little empty for the summer months. Please consider bringing a favorite summertime dish that will nourish our neighbors in need. Sign up here.

CHILDREN AND YOUTH--DON'T FORGET TO SIGN UP FOR VBS!

We're on a roll with God! Join us for a fast-paced, food-centered VBS for kids Pre-K thru 5th grade. Baker will be hosting VBS from June 24-28, 9-11:30am, PLUS join us Thursday, June 27 for a celebration luncheon following VBS to enjoy games, a bounce house, and the Hippie Gourmet Grilled Cheese food truck (cost not included).

Thursdays, 7-8:30am at Colonial Cafe in St. Charles.

Schedule and assigned reading:

For a video overview of Mark’s gospel, check out the Bible Project video below.

Join us Sunday, June 9, for the 10th and last in our series, The Bible's Rock Stars & One Hit Wonders.

The last book in the Bible, Revelations, contains Letters & Blueprints to seven angels who are specifically assigned to seven churches. The one perhaps most familiar contains Jesus' word to the church at Laodicea then and to each of us now. With Revelation 3:20 as our backdrop, we'll ponder what it means that Jesus knocks at the doors of our hearts. A video, music and prayer complement our discussion. We welcome newcomers and those who have joined us throughout the series!

THANK YOU

The family of John Fasbender extends a BIG hug to all for their warm concerns, support, guidance and love during this most difficult time span. Knowing my church family was there for me comforted me. Words cannot express my gratefulness for a wonderful church family.

Thank you to all the kitchen ANGELS for assisting in the kitchen and keeping the food trays replenished in Fellowship hall. Thank you to all the bakers that supplied all the desserts for the Celebration, that was John’s favorite part. Those in the kitchen also discovered that was also Chris’ favorite part. Thank you to all who volunteered to greet and welcome and usher for the Celebration of Life.

Blessings and Gratitude for all!

Colleen Fasbender and family
