Crime Writers Panel

Sunday, November 3, 2 to 4 p.m., Mill St.


From political crime thrillers to paranormal novels and noir mystery, there’s something for every literary crime enthusiast at the next Experts in the Library. Join us on November 3 for a thrilling book talk featuring six authors from the Crime Writers of Canada. At this special presentation, authors Jim McDonald, Hyacinthe M. Miller, Peter Thomas Pontsa, Kris Purdy, Alexis Stefanovich-Thomson and Angela van Breemen will walk through their writing process and provide valuable writing tips.


Following the panel discussion, audience members will have the opportunity to ask questions or purchase a book and have it signed. No pre-registration is required. Refreshments will be served.

WOW: Women Talk Travel

Saturday, November 30, 2 to 4 p.m.


Join us at Mill St. for Stories to Inspire Your Sense of Adventure at the annual Words the Orangeville Way (WOW) literary event! Whether your idea of travel involves climbing aboard a train, paddling a peaceful river, hiking to a mountain top, walking in Paris, or reading about these adventures from the comfort of a favourite chair, our WOW event is for you.


Enjoy a conversation between three travel authors (Nicola Ross (40 Days and 40 Hikes: Loving the Bruce Trail One Loop at a Time), Marlis Butcher (Park Bagger: Adventures in the Canadian National Parks) and Pamela Mulloy (Off the Tracks: A Meditation on Train Journeys in a Time of No Travel). Expert moderator Bernadette Hardaker will lead the discussion.


WOW is presented in partnership with BookLore. Light refreshments provided. Book sales and signing to follow. Please RSVP at BookLore or through the library online.

Tuesday, November 12 and 26, 7 - 8:30 p.m., Mill St. - The After Hours Write Club is a writing workshop facilitated by local author Anthony Carnovale. Please register in advance to attend this program and don't forget to pack your writing supplies. The group meets every second Tuesday.


Friday, November 15, 7 p.m., Mill St. - In partnership with Dufferin Child and Family Services, an educational evening for the community in recognition of Trans Awareness Week (November 13 - 19). Books and Loose Parts

Explore the amazing world of loose parts inspired by children's stories with Alyson Pell from The Sunflower School. The featured book this month is The Tree in Me by Corinna Luyken. Explore through loose parts how humans are strong, creative and connected to others. For ages 2.5 to 6 years with a parent/caregiver. This is a drop in program at the Mill Library.

PA Day Programs

Sticky Science Workshop

Friday, November 22, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Mill St.


Scientists in School is coming to the Orangeville Public Library to offer two fun STEM workshops. Get sticky with it! Discover the science of sticky. Make your own glue from food products and test them to see how they hold. Create your own sticky art. And of course, there will be silly putty!


This workshop is suitable for children ages 4 to 12. Registration for each child is required to participate and space is limited.

Magical Science Workshop

Friday, November 29, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Mill St.


Discover a magical force that will levitate particles. Scatter light and create illusions that will thrill your audience. Experiment with colourful teas and unusual potions on this magical science adventure!


This workshop is suitable for children ages 4 to 12. Registration for each child is required to participate and space is limited. 


Soar at the Library After School


Social Justice Club meets on Wednesdays (November 6, 13, and 20) in the meeting room from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Mill Library. Through discussion and hands on activities, children ages 7 to 12 learn about the bigger issues facing our society and how small actions like helping others and caring for the environment can make a difference. Please register in advance. Teens ages 13+ are invited to volunteer - contact teens@orangeville.ca to learn more.


Monday, November 25, 4:30 p.m. - After School Club meets at the Mill Library. Can mathematics also be art? Can art also be mathematical? Join Shelley for a creative exploration of the relationship between math and art! No registration is required.

Stranger Things Teen Escape Room


Friday, November 29, 5 to 8 p.m., Mill Library - Grab a group of friends and test your Stranger Things knowledge. Think you know about the Upside Down and all there is to know about 1980s Hawkins, Indiana? You better brush up to be able to solve these riddles and escape!


This program has been developed by teens in the library's Teen Advisory Group and is a chance for teens ages 13 to 17 to participate in a teen led program! Only those between the ages of 13 and 17 are eligible to participate. Registration is required.

Staff Training Day - Both locations will be closed on Monday, November 18 for staff training and development.


Library Board Meeting - The next meeting of the Library Board is on Wednesday, November 27, 5 p.m. at the Mill Library.


This year’s Treaties Recognition Week is November 5 – 11. Watch these videos to hear Indigenous speakers share their knowledge about the importance of treaties, treaty relationships and rights in Ontario.


Big Library Reads - From November 7 - 21, Tracy Occomy Crowder’s "Montgomery and the Case of the Golden Key" (Junior Fiction) is available for free as an ebook and audiobook on the Libby app without waitlists or holds.


The 2024 Together We Read Canada program will feature Going to Beautiful by Anthony Bidulka. Going to Beautiful will be available in ebook and audiobook format for unlimited access on Libby between November 25 and December 9.
