Happy Friday!

We hope you all have had a wonderful first few weeks of school! The official start of fall is next Sunday and coincides with one of our favorite family events, the Tour de Ogden! So find your helmets, tune up your bikes, and make sure to register and order T-shirts HERE.

Fall is always a busy time, so we want to say a big thank you to all of the parents who signed up to be room parents, art enrichment volunteers, or for one of our many Ogden PTC committees. If you haven't had the chance yet, please check out the Fall SUG - there are still some spots left! If you want to get involved and don't see an opportunity that fits your time or talents, please reach out - our PTC strives to give everyone an opportunity to give back to the Ogden community!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Love Art and Want to Spend Time in Your Child’s Classroom?

Are you looking for an opportunity to participate and have some fun in an Ogden classroom? We need a few more volunteers for Art Enrichment for 2024-25. All parents are welcome to volunteer. No art or art history background is required to participate.

We especially need more volunteers for:

2nd Grade - Wieczorek (Class Lead)

3rd Grade - Tusek (Class Lead)

3rd Grade - Vaupell (3)

5th Grade – Revak (2)

6th Grade – Schroeder (3)

6th Grade - Shamet (Class Lead)

The Art Enrichment Program, sponsored by the Ogden PTC, provides a supplement to the art curriculum at Ogden Avenue School. Parent volunteers lead art lessons at each grade level four times a year. The lessons consist of a presentation/discussion of a particular artist or type of art followed by a team of volunteers guiding students to create individual art projects.

Click HERE to sign up for the PTC Fall Sign-Up Genius Art Enrichment page.

For more information about the program, go to https://ogdenptc.org/art-enrichment.

Room Parents

Thank you everyone for volunteering for your child’s class parties!

We are opening up the option to sign up for multiple individual class parties for the open 6th grade parties. Please see the list below.

We will continue to only have 1 parent sign up for a Lead Parent, as the lead parent attends all parties. Please don’t sign up for multiple leads.

We are in need of a few more Lead Room Parents! If you’d like to switch your individual party sign up to a Lead, please keep your name on the individual party as well. The Lead will ask all parents if they’d like their spot for that party at a later time.

Sign ups are needed for the following:

4TH GRADE:

Carter - Room Lead

Strain - Room Lead

5TH GRADE:

Fikaris - Room Lead

Revak - Room Lead

Rowder - Room Lead

6TH GRADE:

Schroeder - Winter Party

Shamet - End of Year Party

Yochem - Room Lead

Banned Books Week

Did you know that in 2023 more books were banned in US schools and libraries than

any other year for which records have been kept?

Among those books were commonly taught novels such as Lord of the Flies and To Kill a Mockingbird.

Banned Books Week (September 22 – 28) is an annual event that highlights the value of free and open access to information and brings together the entire book community — librarians, educators, authors, publishers, booksellers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas.

Throughout the month of September, OPEN will be highlighting banned books from the LRC in the front hall display case, including favorites such as The Harry Potter series, A Wrinkle in Time and Where the Wild Things Are.

The La Grange and La Grange Park libraries will commemorate Banned Books Week with special activities – be sure to check them out (pun intended!) and encourage your little ones to read a banned book this month! Links to the LGL and LGPL events are below.

Looking ahead: We will host a Banned Book Club meeting for parents and caregivers on November 11. Our book selection will be Blubber by Judy Bloom. We’ll share more details soon!

Questions? Contact Betsy Shea
