Dear Emmanuel,
As we reflect on the events of this past week, our hearts are heavy with the aftermath of Tropical Storm Debby. The storm has brought unprecedented rainfall and flooding to Sarasota County, leaving many of our neighbors in distress and in need of support (over 500 houses were evacuated from the flooding). In these challenging times, we turn to the words of Jesus in John 6:35-51 this week for comfort and guidance.
Jesus said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35). This powerful declaration reminds us that during physical and emotional turmoil, Jesus is our sustenance and our source of eternal hope. Just as He provided manna to the Israelites in the wilderness, He offers us the living bread that sustains our souls.
As we witness the community coming together to help those affected by the storm, we see a reflection of Christ’s love and provision. Volunteers rescuing stranded families, neighbors sharing food and resources, and shelters opening their doors to those in need are all manifestations of the living bread that Jesus speaks of. It is in these acts of kindness and solidarity that we find the true essence of His message.
As time goes on and we begin to assess the impact of Debby on Sarasota County, there will be some practical ways we can those impacted by the storm such as donating supplies, volunteering our time, making financial contributions, offering shelter, and of course prayer.
Let us continue to pray for those impacted by the storm, for the safety of the rescue workers, and for the swift restoration of our community. May we also be inspired to be the hands and feet of Jesus, offering support and compassion to those around us. Together, we can embody the promise that whoever comes to Him will never go hungry or thirsty.
In Christ’s Love,
Pastor Will
