Pastor Mike's Retirement Party
Friday, October 18 at 5:30 pm in the Life Center
The planning for Pastor Mike’s retirement party is in full swing. There will be a luscious Italian dinner of chicken parmesan, baked ziti, meatballs with sauce, pizza and salad catered by Pizza Gorda followed by a tribute program to Pastor Mike. It will be a fun evening for everyone. The cost of the dinner is $20/person but kids under 8 eat for free. You can attend the tribute program without having dinner if that is your preference.
You know Pastor Mike’s dedication and commitment to prayer. We thought that a fitting gift for him would be a written commitment that we are households of prayer. We are planning to place the names of all participating households on a beautiful cherry wood plaque with each household name etched onto the plaque. We are asking for a donation of $5/household to cover the cost of the plaque and the etching. If you are willing to make such a commitment, here’s how you can participate:
- Search your heart and determine if you can make and keep a commitment to being a household of prayer.
- Determine how you want your name displayed on the plaque. For example; Smith Family or The Ford Clan or Judy Justin Household etc. We are limited to a maximum of 3 words only.
We must have your intention to participate in the plaque and if you plan to have dinner, NO LATER THAN September 23rd.
Fill out the form below (click HERE for a PDF version) and send it along with your check made out to New Life in Christ Church. The mailing address is 507 W. Marion Ave., Punta Gorda, 33950. Feel free to drop your check and form by the office or put it in the offering box after worship. The church office is open Monday -Thursday from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.

Pastor Transition Update
Our Lead Pastor transition is moving ahead!
First, Pastor Casey has joined Pastor Mike on their Sanctification Network's weekly Zoom meeting. The Sanctification Network is a relational connection of local churches and leaders who are devoted to making more and maturing disciples of Jesus in Wesleyan heritage. Their cohort of about twelve pastors meets weekly with two ministry coaches for a time of "loving, learning, and leading" to help their churches grow as their pastors grow.
Second, Pastor Mike is meeting with Pastor Casey each week via Zoom for "transition talks." Each week they talk about the ins and outs of ministry at New Life.
Finally, Pastor Casey will be on site in Punta Gorda for a few days in October. He plans to meet with staff and a few church leaders.
Keep praying for Mike, Casey, their families, and our church. If you have any questions about the transition process, please contact Kathy Butgereit, kathy@newlifeforall.church.

Cuba Missions Update
Cuba Supporters,
About eight years we financed the installation of a water purification system for our Sister Church in Guaro. The water there is full of lead. Our growth in that church is helped by the villagers coming to the church for safe drinking water. Our mission team took new filters to Guaro on their mission trip in June.
Agape Flights has been able to get permission to fly to Cuba eight times this year. On the first flight we were able to send two new water systems. One went to our Sister Church in Taguasco. In spite of being in the heart of a large town, there is no municipal water and they have a small well and rain water from the roof.
The message and picture is from Pastor Yosdel:
Thank you very much brother, we already have the water filters, my wife and my children thank you, the drinking water here is not very good, God continue helping you so that you can continue helping.
The second system went to the church of the District Superintendent Pastor Osmar.
His message and picture is below:

The water filter has already been installed in Fomento.
Thank you very much.
Glory to God!

Operation Christmas Child
The Operation Christmas Child Shoebox Ministry Team requests your help with the following donations for August & September: School Supplies! Children in most countries receiving shoe boxes cannot attend school unless they bring their own school supplies, so let’s get them to school! Crayons, pencils, ink pens, colored pencils, pencil cases, markers, watercolor sets, small spiral notebooks, notebook paper, scissors, glue sticks, pencil/crayon sharpeners, and coloring books. Watch for sales at the local stores! Please put your donations in the collection box located in Lenox Hall. Thank you for your help in this important outreach ministry!

A Word from Worship
Greetings New Life Church family and friends,
It's been a very busy week for us both. It's odd that when you're both sick, you can also have the busiest and craziest schedules ever! Here it is Thursday morning and I should have sent this article in by yesterday's deadline but I'm just trying to get an update to you. So here goes...
Don has continued to recover and slowly regain strength following his week in the hospital. He has at least one in office appointment each week as I do and a nurse visit in our home twice a week as well as physical therapy twice a week. I've had several appointments and five high intensity radiation treatments. I have missed terribly not being at church as often but hopefully things will settle soon. I was grateful to be able to serve at the memorial yesterday but realize my energy is low. I'll admit that when I'm very fatigued, my spirit and sense of hope starts to waver. Between us, we then encourage each other to read scripture and pray. It's wonderful how God lifts us up and hope is restored. Don has lab work tomorrow which is important. Last week Dr Browne was puzzled because the scan they did in the hospital showed the tumor had grown according to the report- which was discouraging and meant chemo wasn't working. However, his blood tests last Friday were all normal! She said looking at tests that are all in normal range for the first time since we started, tell her chemo is doing its job! Please pray for just that! I believe prayer is working! I will update you next week. Thank you for your prayers, your meals and all your love and support. We are truly blessed.
I'm praying for you!
