Dunkin' Returns to Pearl River

It’s official—Dunkin’ in Pearl River is (finally) open! Supervisor Kenny was thrilled to stop by this past Tuesday morning to wish owner Mike McAleer best of luck. The place looked great and the coffee hit the spot. Stay tuned for details on the official Ribbon Cutting and Grand Re-Opening event that is happening later this summer.

Five Towns of Rockland Red Cross Blood Drive Challenge

Supervisor Kenny joined 26 others in donating blood to the American Red Cross this week at Orangetown Town Hall. State Senator Bill Weber challenged the five towns in Rockland County to see who would collect the most blood and have the most first-time donors. Right now, Orangetown leads Ramapo and Stony Point in both categories. However, Clarkstown's blood drive was today and Haverstraw's will be tomorrow, so the final results are not yet available. Regardless of the outcome, it was nice to see the towns come together to help such a great cause.  Pictured Above: Top Right – Fernando Cortes; Bottom Left – Volunteer Amanda McCabe; Bottom Right – David Parisen

Orangetown Police Department

Remembering those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

On Thursday, August 2, 1973, 51 years ago today, Patrolman Michael Reedy and Patrolman Thomas Kennedy were stuck and killed by a vehicle while directing traffic at an accident scene on Route 303.

Patrolmen Reedy and Kennedy, and other emergency personnel, were at the scene of a serious accident on State Route 303 in the Hamlet of Blauvelt. The accident scene was closed off and well-lit by flares and emergency lights of Police, Fire and Ambulance vehicles. A drunk driver coming north at a high rate of speed passed the flares, drove over the fire hoses and struck Officer Reedy and Officer Kennedy who were standing together in the roadway.

Officer Reedy had served with the agency for four years. Officer Kennedy had been with the agency for only six months.
