CARVER VOICES - AUGUST

SUMMER FUN AT CAMP CARVER COMES TO AN END

This summer’s Camp Carver was a rewarding experience for our children, providing them with access to enriching activities and a supportive community. The program offered a wide range of fun and educational opportunities—from outdoor adventures and creative arts to exciting offsite field trips—giving the campers a chance to develop new skills and build confidence. Our dedicated staff fostered a sense of belonging and positivity. The children formed lasting friendships and created cherished memories. Camp Carver became a place where they could truly thrive, making it a summer filled with joy, growth, and empowerment.

CELEBRATING SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT

This summer’s cohort of 31 youth gained valuable skills, developed professional work habits, and showed impressive growth both personally and professionally through funding from the Westchester Putnam Workforce Development Board. The youth were placed at various worksites across Westchester County, including our summer camp program.

All youth participated in weekly life-skills workshops to build on their professional development. They skillfully balanced responsibilities, embraced new challenges, and made a meaningful impact in their roles. Congratulations for a job well done!

Thanks to our worksite partners, State Senator Shelley B. Mayer, The Enclave at Rye, Port Chester - Rye Brook Public Library, STEER for Student Athletes, The Sharing Shelf, Port Chester Public Schools, and M Auto Detailing.

GETTING READY FOR AN ENRICHING

AFTER SCHOOL EXPERIENCE

Carver Center's After School Program at the four elementary schools in Port Chester will begin on September 3rd. Carver Center, in partnership with the School District, has secured funding to provide programming for up to 585 children for $100 per year. Students will receive invaluable support through a program designed to enhance their academic skills, creativity, and social development beyond the regular school day.

The program will offer a wide range of activities, from homework help and STEM learning to arts and sports, ensuring a well-rounded experience. With experienced educators guiding them, these children will THRIVE, setting a strong foundation for their future success. Additionally, the Carver Center Food Services team will provide each student with a nutritious hot meal every day of the program.

PORT CHESTER UNITY DATE UNITES A COMMUNITY

Port Chester Unity Day is an annual community-wide event that brings together residents for a day of fun, connection, and support. Centered around a lively cookout and a competitive basketball tournament, the event is a celebration of togetherness and community spirit. Local organizations are invited to set up booths to share their valuable resources and information with attendees. Carver Center was represented by team members, Armando and Daisy. Also pictured above is Carver's Chief Advancement Officer, Colleen Kane, and her son, John. John was putting the final touches on his purple sailboat,

that he created at the Home Depot arts and crafts booth.

Unity Day is more than just food and sports—it’s a chance for the Port Chester

community to come together, build relationships, and access important

resources while enjoying a day of family-friendly activities.

CARVER FRIENDS MAKING A DIFFERENCE

A group of rising 4th graders from

Rye Country Day School organized a free book fair for our campers entering Kindergarten and First Grade. Each child was able to choose three books from a wide selection.

On August 11th, the students came to Carver and spent time setting up the event, reading with the children, and engaging them in conversation.

Thank you for sharing your love of reading with our campers!

SUPPORTER SPOTLIGHT: UNITED WAY OF

WESTCHESTER AND PUTNAM

Our thanks to the United Way of Westchester and Putnam who delivered

a wonderful donation of toys to our Camp Carver children.

Throughout the summer, United Way of Westchester and Putnam distributed toys to

school-aged children at summer camps in Westchester and Putnam through its partnership with Toys for Tots and Good 360. The toys are part of the partnership's Unplug and Play initiative, which distributes toys and books to children during the spring, summer, and fall

to help them unplug from their devices and engage their imaginations. Our children

were all smiles as they received their toys!

Additionally, Carver Center recently received a Community Impact grant to

support our Case Management Program.

CARVER CENTER POOL WILL BE CLOSED FOR YEARLY MAINTENANCE
