Reminder: SR-55 Scheduled for Full Freeway Closure this Weekend

WHAT:

Southern California Edison (SCE) is scheduled to install new power lines across all lanes of SR-55.

This work will require a full closure of northbound and southbound SR-55 between Edinger Avenue and Dyer Road. In addition, the following ramps, connectors, and street will be closed:

Southbound Dyer Road off-ramps
Northbound Dyer Road on-ramps
Southbound Edinger Avenue on-ramp
Southbound McFadden Avenue on-ramp
Southbound I-5 to southbound SR-55 HOV connector
Southbound I-405 to northbound SR-55 HOV connector
Westbound Warner Avenue over SR-55

WHEN:

As early as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly, Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27. Crews may need to return the following weekend to complete the work.

This work may be loud. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen operational issues.

Construction Activities

Roadway Removals

Crews are removing asphalt along the southbound MacArthur Boulevard off-ramp to accommodate the freeway improvements. This work is being done behind temporary concrete barriers to keep crews safe and will continue through

mid-May.

We encourage motorists to help take part in keeping everyone safe by obeying all construction signs and reduced speed signs.

Lane Channel Demolition

The 3,139-foot long Lane Channel is being constructed north of the MacArthur Boulevard off-ramp. Last year, crews successfully removed and reconstructed the north end of the channel. In May, crews will resume work to reconstruct the south portion of the Lane Channel. Crews are currently installing a diversion pipe to prepare for demolition and reconstruction work in the channel.

About the Project

OCTA, in cooperation with Caltrans, is improving 4 miles of SR-55 between I-405 and I-5. The project will improve traffic flow and reduce travel time by adding one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction. Also, the project will add merge lanes between several interchanges and stripe carpool lanes for continuous access, augmenting safety on the freeway by making merging easier. These enhancements are expected to create a better, smoother driving experience for motorists.
