Sunday, May 5, guest preacher and speaker, Rev. Brenda Booth

This Sunday, May 5 we welcome Rev. Brenda Booth, Executive Director of Isaiah 58 Ministries. Brenda† will be our guest preacher at both 8 and 10 am services. And she will visit with us at the 9 am Formation time.

Isaiah 58 Ministries has been serving the needs of low-income individuals in south city since 1970. Our food ministry partners with them and currently our youth are collecting diapers to benefit Isaiah 58 clients. Come learn more about their services!

YOUTH SUNDAY!

As you'll notice in the 10 am bulletin, our children and youth will lead worship this Sunday with their voices and talents. We are blessed to have a cohort of youth who are present with us and who will participate in the service. Special music will include cello solo, violin duet, piano solo and children's choir. AND we will also hear from some of the graduating seniors.

Click here for a video of the Senior Spotlight! We originally wanted to set the video to Michael Jackson's Heal the World but copyrights prohibited that. You'll know why when you read about these wonderful students. You can also click here for a PDF to download. Congratulations and happiness to all seniors, present and not present on Sunday!

AND after the 10 am service, we will gather in the parish hall for Emmanuel Connects! We might spy a youth or two or three in there!

LEGO ART!

Nearly every Monday we find the most creative, wonderful Lego creations in the parish hall. On Mondays we disassemble them and sort the blocks by color ready for the next creation! We do that for safety and to prevent Lego blocks from migrating out of the parish hall!

We encourage parents or anyone to take photos of the creations and email them to us. We will start a LEGO ART GALLERY on the bulletin board by the food center so kids and others can admire their work! Please email to Mimi Shipp.

THANK YOU TO ALL!

A big thank you to all the volunteers from Episcopal Church of the Advent in Crestwood, St. Mark's Episcopal in south city and to Emmanuel!

We committed to 25,000 meals and through your help we did it! It was wonderful to see what we can accomplish when we are all together.

Special thanks to Mark Rackers, Kathleen Martin, Alan & Stephanie Jeude, Jen Padrucco, Janice Evans (Advent), and Dale Penrose. And we can't forget Phillip Poke who dealt with all the rice that hit the floor!! GOOD JOB ALL!!

WHAT'S UP @EEC...

Emmanuel Preschool is celebrating their 75th Anniversary in 2024!!

from the archives....

Since 1949 a self-supporting Day Nursery School has been in existence at Emmanuel Church. It was established as "a means of expanding our service to both parish and community, improving and adding to Sunday school equipment and facilities, and making use of these facilities for more than an hour or two on Sunday." Mrs. D. W. Goode, who was Director-Teacher from the beginning, reported a very fine year in 1965-66.

And Saturday Emmanuel Preschool will hold their annual carnival complete with pony rides, bounce house, a real fire truck, games, food and lots of prizes!! Open to the public, 11 am to 2 pm.

DIAPER DRIVE!

The Diaper Drive that Emmanuel Youth Group is hosting to benefit Isaiah 58 Ministries is coming to a close. Please have all diapers here by Sunday, May 5.

We are collecting sizes 5 and 6. But, if you have open boxes of other sizes, bring them! Drop them in the blue bins!

Sunday, May 19 is the Day of Pentecost

At the 10 am service we will have a baptism and the Gospel will be read simultaneously in a variety of languages. If you speak another language and would like join in "speaking in tongues", let us know by emailing Ann Marie Ruhlin. We will provide you with the translation, which you read from where you are sitting allowing us to be one in spirit!

After the 10 am service on Pentecost everyone is invited to continue the celebration with a picnic on the Jones Hall lawn! If you'd like to help with the picnic, please contact Charlie Walch or Maryjane Hotaling!

UPCOMING...

Saturday, June 1 is Peace Meal at St. John's Episcopal in Tower Grove. We volunteer several times a year for this weekly meal distributed to neighbors in the south city area. Shifts are 2-4 pm and 4-6 pm. We need 4-6 volunteers per shift and families with school age kids can participate in this food ministry service. Please let Katie Gregston know if you have question or would like to assist!

Sunday, June 2 at 5:00 pm we will host a Pride Prayer service. Many LGBTQIA people have been hurt by the church. We wish to acknowledge and lament that hurt. This service is open to anyone.

Sunday, June 9 beginning at 1 pm we will participate in the Churches Together for Justice Gun Violence Prevention March and Rally. The march will begin at Webster Groves Presbyterian Church on Lockwood & Gore and walk down Lockwood, ending at Emmanuel. There will be speakers at Emmanuel, including Bishop Deon Johnson. Wear Orange Sunday. Click here to visit the Wear Orange site to order t-shirts.

Sunday, June 30 we are planning a newcomer brunch after the 10 am service. We will be sending an electronic invitation soon. Our last newcomer gathering was October 2023. If you were unable to attend that event, we'll include you this time too!
