Convention Breakout Set to Discuss Accessibility and Inclusion for All

Michael Hingson, who happens to be blind, illustrates why it is time to move from Diversity to Inclusion on the job and in our lives.

Mike uses stories and lessons from his own life growing up as a blind person, successfully working in professional sales, management, and leadership positions, living as an entrepreneur, and surviving the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 to teach his audiences how a few simple attitude adjustments can open the minds and hearts of all of us as well as including persons with disabilities when filling jobs.

You will take away ideas about how to gain loyal and hard-working employees as well as how to help make the existing workforce more welcoming to those who are different than they.

State Session Win with Defeat of HB 914

LCUL in partnership with the Louisiana Bankers Association (LBA) was successful in our advocacy efforts to defeat HB 914.

This proposed legislation would have further regulated financial institutions from prohibiting them from denying or canceling services or discriminating against a person on the basis of first or second amendment rights.

LCUL stressed that our industries are already regulated by federal entities as well as by LOFI (Louisiana Office of Financial Institutions). In addition, no evidence was given as to the need for this legislation or any instance where a Louisiana financial institution had committed these acts.

Untangling Mental Health: Why We Dodge Important Talks

May symbolizes Mental Health Awareness Month, a time when society focuses on the profound importance of mental well-being. However, conversations about mental health should extend far beyond just thirty-one days.

Every day, in every workplace, there’s a pressing need to cultivate an environment where employees feel empowered to share their mental health challenges. Unfortunately, the pervasive fear of stigma and misunderstanding often holds individuals back from seeking the support they truly need.
