Retreat for BIPOC Women Leaders Provides Respite and Connection
This summer, the Adirondack Diversity Initiative (ADI) launched a new respite and mentoring program designed to support BIPOC leaders who do the hard work of managing social justice organizations while also facing the "weathering effect" that structural racism can have on their health and well-being.
In this month's What's Up North blog, ADI's new Community Initiatives Manager Tamara Jolly reflects on the "Cultivating Community Leaders" program and participants' experiences at the inaugural retreat at Great Camp Sagamore.
“This was a place to come and find yourself, explore, and move forward with a sense of new beginnings. Seeing people who look like me feel so comfortable and excited about the natural world made it okay for me to feel that way too.”
