Alumnus creates safe sharps disposal

Georgian has partnered with alumnus Sam Gray (class of 2009), of Harm Reduction Supplies, who created the Safe Case made out of recycled plastics. Georgian is the first educational institution to implement the use of his products into its curriculum. Dr. Treva Job, Simulation Room Manager and professor says she is excited for the ability to provide students with safe sharps disposal throughout their educational experiences as these cases are compact, versatile, and mobile. The compact Safe Case has been implemented into the Medical Lab Assistant program and Paramedic programs to allow students to dispose of their supplies when completing their simulated experiences in the lab setting. The cases will also be implemented in the Medical Lab Technologist program this fall.

"Thank you, Georgian College! This is a special moment for me as a Georgian College alum. I’m very thankful for the opportunity," says Sam. "I’m excited to see our Safe Case being used as a tool for learning."
