COMMUNITY CORNER

Opportunities, shout-outs and requests.

Dear Tracy,

Two weeks ago, a fire broke out in one of our Saranam family apartments on the Eastside of Albuquerque. All of the families are safe and no one was hurt.

Here are the facts:

Two apartments were directly affected by the fire and crews are working to clear and repair them. Inspections done by the firefighters who were on scene found the cause to be undetermined and accidental. No other apartments in the building sustained damage.

Community at work:

Families came together immediately and have steadily supported one another ever since that night. The impact of a support network has never been more clear and powerful.

Thankfully, we had two apartments available in the complex that we could relocate the affected families into. We rallied our volunteers and within a week families were safely tucked back into apartments with groceries in their pantries, sheets on new beds and toys to play with.

Saranam’s community comes together time and time again when we need it, and we are grateful.

Here are some of the astounding ways we have seen the care of our community brought to life recently:

Here is a look into the apartments that were prepared for families.

How you can help:

Thank you for everyone who has helped so far! There are still a few items on our wishlist for the affected families and to replace items we used that had been intended for the ADC Family Campus. You can also provide gift cards and we will get them directly to our families that need them.

Please keep sending your well-wishes and prayers. Our families are steadied by the support that surrounds them. Thank you!

ADC Campus Update

We have beautiful kitchens, closets and bathrooms coming together at the ADC Family Campus!

Outside, sidewalks have been laid that add to the neighborhood feel. And inside, construction crews have installed durable flooring, appliances and cabinets.

A huge thanks to Helen Mumford Interiors for the expert design and installation of blinds in each home! They add an element of style and ensure the privacy and energy efficiency of the homes.

Catch our latest blog about the other energy efficient elements we have incorporated into the homes!

We continue to wait for the necessary equipment to complete the build before we can obtain occupancy. When our certificate of occupancy is in hand, we will be ready to move forward with applications and move new families in within a couple of weeks.

Resource and Time Management

Our first-year families will soon embark on our summer-long Employability Skills class where they will learn core skills needed to gain and maintain employment.

One of the topics in this 12-week series is Resource and Time Management. This class puts several of the lessons that families have honed in their academic classes to work in a professional environment. Students will cover how to effectively manage time and project priorities and explore the best ways to use technology or procedures to streamline workloads.

Each class is led by an instructor or leader in the field and includes special guest presentations by our very own volunteers! If you would like to share your expertise this summer, contact Sunny Holmes, Community Engagement Coordinator.

Thank you for helping prepare families for a successful career!
