A Note from the Admin Office

At their April 3, 2024 meeting, the Board of Library Trustees voted to appoint Tom O’Connell as the new Director of the Grafton Public Library, pending successful contract negotiations. This vote was taken after Mr. O’Connell interviewed with the Board, and visited the library to see the facility and meet our staff. Since that meeting, members of the Board have been in negotiations with Mr. O’Connell, to reach an employment agreement. While there is no signed agreement yet, we are optimistic that one will be finalized soon, and we will be able to welcome a new Director to our facility.

Interviews have been scheduled with finalists for the Library Department Assistant and will take place over the next two weeks. We received many promising applications, and are confident that this process will bring a great new member to our team.

Building Update

After last week's rain, the Scaffolding for the Cupola Restoration Project has been completed, and work on this project will now begin in earnest. The Restoration Project will see extensive work done on the base of the Cupola and the individual louvers. In the end, the Cupola will be restored to its original glory. The project is estimated to be completed by mid-August.

Work on the Children’s Room Restoration project has unfortunately stalled after the delivery of the replacement carpet last week. Members of Library Staff and the Town Administrator’s Office have had several extensive meetings with the contractor and the insurance company to rectify this issue, and believe work should restart shortly. It is our goal to ensure the room is re-opened in proper condition so that there are no problems in the future with the work that is being performed.

Unfortunately, Library staff does not have a timeline or any new information about the reopening of the Children's Room. Please address any questions or concerns to the Town Administrator's office by filling out a form on the town website or by emailing William Blake, Assistant Town Adminstrator at blakew@grafton-ma.gov.
