The Garden Fair is our largest seasonal festival of the year and is a major fundraiser for FONA. Proceeds from this event allow FONA to support and advocate for the National Arboretum, provide youth and adult programs, and build partnerships within the community. The Arboretum's Azalea Collections draw tens of thousands of visitors to the grounds each year. But have you ever wondered what it takes to manage the collections?

Max Fedeli is the Agriculture Science and Research Technician who manages the Azalea Collections. We sat down with Max last year to learn what it takes to care for the collection and shine a light on his work and career.

The Potomac Bonsai Association (PBA) and the National Arboretum is honoring World Bonsai Day on May 11th with a weekend festival celebrating the art of bonsai.

The festival will take place from Friday, May 10th through Sunday, May 12th. A juried exhibit of PBA bonsai will be on view in the Bonsai & Penjing Museum's Exhibits Gallery. There will also be vendors selling bonsai, pre-bonsai, pots, accents, and supplies. The weekend includes free demonstrations, children's activities, and docent-led tours of the Museum. Food trucks will also be at the festival Saturday and Sunday.

Beginner bonsai workshops will be offered throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday. Registration costs $75, and includes supplies.

Don't forget to buy your tickets for our Music in the Meadow concert with Cumbia Heights on Friday, May 17th from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Enjoy a picnic in the Ellipse Meadow while listening and dancing to alt-tropical music!

Please pay what you can to attend this event. Our suggested ticket price is $25 (or $20 for FONA members). Children 12 and under are free, but tickets are required.

Registration is required to enter the grounds on May 17th, and a limited number of tickets are available. Only the Ellipse Meadow and the National Herb Garden will be open to attendees.
