Happy August, theatre family!
We hope you are enjoying Chicago summertime! Here at the League, we are wrapping up a successful fiscal year, packed full of transitions, new program launches, new team members, and advocacy efforts.
In this last fiscal year alone, we held two career fairs, launched the Community Empowerment Series for members, and hosted our first Black History Month Panel at The Understudy Coffee and Books. We partnered with arts and city organizations to amplify the theatre community in events such as the Arts in the Dark parade, the Millennium Park Holiday Sing-along, and Sundays on State. We celebrated another successful Chicago Theatre Week in collaboration with Choose Chicago and held community conversations with Chicago DCASE.
We co-hosted the annual E-Waste Drive and the first-ever Theatre Tool Drive with Chicago Green Theatre Alliance, as well as the National Theatre Conference in Chicago with Theatre Communications Group. This fiscal year, we've also launched a new Youth Night in the Theatre initiative with the Chicago Tribune and celebrated the League’s 45th birthday in April. We hope you'll join us as we continue to celebrate 45 more years of service throughout 2024!
At the League this year, we held a staff retreat and started our strategic planning process in coordination with our Board of Directors. We launched a new membership model and Hot Tix commission model that is more equitable across our organization. We secured new funding opportunities for our continued development and worked with state legislators in Springfield to develop a fair and accessible Theatre Tax Credit.
As we look to the future, we will be shining a light on the bigger picture and goals of the League of Chicago Theatres. Thank you ALL for your help and collaboration – the show could not go on without you.
