Thank You for Over 25 Years of Dedication to OLLI

Lisa’s last day at OLLI is Friday, May 10, 2024.

To respect Lisa’s wishes, her retirement celebration will be a small gathering in the office.

Come celebrate with Lisa and wish her well in her retirement:

Wednesday, May 8

11:15am–1:15pm

Evanston OLLI

500 Davis Street, Suite 700

Dear OLLI Members,

I have no regrets as I announce my retirement from Northwestern University after over 25 years of service. During my tenure I have worked under...4 Northwestern University presidents… 5 OLLI directors; 4 different OLLI locations; growth from 100 to over 1000 OLLI members; the introduction of the Osher Foundation; and countless other milestones.

For every OLLI milestone, I have been an integral part of the growth and innovation. I am lucky to have made wonderful friends and worked with passionate and committed colleagues.

I’ve always had a special place in my heart for people who are advancing in age, and I enjoy connecting with our members — becoming more than just a staff member, but rather a friend. I have been with them in happy times and in sadness, illness, and grief, even attending funerals and making hospital visits. I have always treated OLLI members with compassion, kindness, and good humor. I will miss OLLI’s wonderful members.

As Bob Hope would say, “Thanks for the memories.”

Coordinators, OLLI Needs You!

Summer Study Group Proposals Are Due Today!

We are short of our Summer study group goal.

Proposals deadline: Today! Sunday, April 28

Catalog releases: Sunday, June 2

Summer 4-week term: Monday, July 8 through Friday, August 2

  • Think creatively about your texts and topics. Consider new or under-represented topics like philosophy, economics, religion, anthropology, recent history. Consider podcasts, streaming series', credible YouTube channels, museums, Ted Talks, magazines, journals, books, and more. Click here for a list of study group resource ideas.
  • Click here to view a sample proposal form which will help you gather information needed.
  • Be sure all coordinator emails are correct on the form. Emails submitted on the form are used for all summer coordinator correspondence, including the email confirmations containing proposal details.
  • Instructions to save and share the form with co-coordinators are in the form. You or a co-coordinator must click Submit to finalize the form.
  • You will receive an email confirmation from JotForm with your submission information.

No need to be a topic expert. Coordinators are not instructors. Your success as a coordinator does not hinge on how much you know, but rather on your ability to encourage member participation.

Coordinators play a vital role in our OLLI program. Their importance to the success of OLLI cannot be overstated. We value the time and talents you bring to OLLI.

In the US, nearly 60% of hate crimes are antisemitic in nature, even though Jews account for less than 3% of the population. Yehudit Barsky (Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy) will provide OLLI members with an understanding of how extremist movements have spread antisemitic ideology throughout the world. She’ll examine the lightning-speed spread of antisemitism through social media, and how both the far right and far left have embraced this hateful ideology. Ms. Barsky will also discuss what can be done about this frightening rise of hate.
