Soul Fest

Meet us at Soul Fest on September 21!

This is a large-scale collaborative effort shared by GIAC and other GIAC partners. Since the mid-1900s, soul music has remained one of the most popular music genres across the globe. It has become the soundtrack for many lives, especially the civil rights movement. The soulful voices and the soul music that undergirded the American Civil Rights movement helped to build bridges between divided communities, embodied the woes of oppressed communities, and helped produce breakthroughs for reform and change. Thank you to Frank Kruppa Donor

"In my work as Health Commissioner I see the people and places that have immense need as well as the significant impact of the many community organizations trying to help.

The Community Foundation is a way to help find resources and connect them with people in an impactful way. The mission and values of the Community Foundation aligns with the hopes I have for our community."

-Frank Kruppa, Commissioner of Whole Health, Tompkins County Whole Health and Vice Chair, Community Foundation Board of Directors

Mental Health Fund

rock-yoga-woman.jpg

Dilmeran Akgoze made provisions to create a special mental health field of interest fund with us while working with her financial advisor, CFCU's Frank Torelli, as part of her charitable estate plans. When she passed away on May 4, 2024 we were humbled to honor her wishes to create this needed resource which will begin to make grants in 2027.

Dilmeran also made plans for a special bench to be installed at Stewart Park in memory of her daughter.

A field of interest fund is unique among Community Foundation services because it invites multiple donors with a shared interest in a topic or area to bundle their gifts together for greater impact with flexibility to address changing needs within that topic.

If you would like to explore how to contribute to an existing field of interest fund or perhaps start a new one, please contact our CEO, George Ferrari at gferrari@cftompkins.org to learn more.

Giving to Others Makes us SMILE

It’s no surprise that research indicates that giving to others actually puts donors in a good mood. This is especially the case, studies show, in three ways:

Feels good in the moment. Your Community Foundation makes it easy to give cash, stock, or other assets to a type of fund that is the best fit for you, whether that’s a donor-advised fund, designated fund, field-of-interest fund, or unrestricted endowment fund. When you initiate the stock transfer, for example, it’s fun because the community foundation makes it easy. You know immediately that you’ve taken meaningful action.

Offers choices. Our tools are flexible to meet your charitable giving goals. We can help you set up an annual giving strategy, establish a bequest to your fund in your estate plan, and everything in between. Most of all, we want to help you support the causes that are most important to you, whether those are particular charities or broader areas of community need.

Shows results. We have our finger on the pulse of our region’s priorities and how charitable giving can improve quality of life for everyone. Every day, we work with you and other families, individuals, and businesses to help you not only make a difference, but also actually see the difference you are making. From research and hands-on site visits, to networking with other donors and meeting with community leaders, our team will provide a wide range of opportunities for you to see first hand the results of your philanthropy.

We look forward to helping you incorporate charitable giving into your life in ways that help the community and make you happy!

Building Bridges: Insights and Inspiration from Our Visit to O.A.R.

A site visit to OAR of Tompkins County reveals their deep commitment to serving individuals transitioning from incarceration to community life or what we know as ‘reentry’. The organization’s services—ranging from employment support and housing assistance to educational and legal resources—are not just about addressing immediate needs but also fostering long-term stability and success. By supporting our reentry population, OAR is actively working to reduce recidivism, which benefits the community as a whole by promoting safety, economic contribution, and the overall well-being of returning citizens.

The organization’s approach is built on the understanding that when individuals are given the tools to reintegrate successfully, the entire community thrives. OAR’s support network helps break cycles of incarceration, which can otherwise have lasting effects on families and neighborhoods. Their small, but mighty staff works tirelessly to address not only surface-level concerns but also the root causes of justice...READ MORE.
