Celebrating our Summer Intern Chelsea

Our amazing summer intern Chelsea wrapped up her work here at RMHF, and we want to thank her for her many contributions over the past couple of months.

To mark the end of her internship, Chelsea reflected on her time at RMHF in an article on our website. She explores what she learned, the relationships she formed, and how she is now able to look at her hometown in a more nuanced way.

She is dedicated to health and racial equity, and as she heads back to Duke, we can't wait to see what she does next to serve her community. Thank you for everything, Chelsea!

Partner Spotlight: Virginia Community Health Workers Association

Richmond Memorial Health Foundation is dedicated to supporting area nonprofits focused on increasing health and racial equity and improving access to affordable health care. One such organization is the Virginia Community Health Workers Association (VACHWA). RMHF was an early funder of VACHWA, and has continued to support their work through the years. They are a critical community resource, providing education to healthcare professionals across the Richmond region and we are proud to call them a partner.

As a part of this spotlight, our intern, Chelsea Brown, had a conversation with Shanteny Jackson, the Executive Director of the VACHWA, to discuss their mission, goals, and recent accomplishments, like increasing the number of community health workers they have trained. As Jackson said during the interview, their organization’s programs “align with lived experiences that community health workers are either familiar with or impacted by.”

Reflecting on the "State of the Legislature: Advancing Health and Racial Equity”

RMHF recently hosted an event titled "State of the Legislature: Advancing Health and Racial Equity,” which brought together multiple community organizations to explore how we can work together to advance legislation in the General Assembly.

Guided by our Strategic Framework, RMHF has increased our focus on civic engagement, public policy, and advocacy to support the critical work of our partners who help promote health and racial equity all across the Richmond region.

We want to thank the speakers, organizations, and leaders who participated, and we look forward to using what we learned collectively to expand our legislative impact in future General Assembly Sessions.

Grant Opportunities

We are continuing to accept applications for both our Opportunity Investment Grants and our Capacity Building Grants!

Opportunity Investment Grants are designed specifically for organizations in need of time-sensitive support so that they may respond quickly to urgent, unexpected challenges and opportunities. Capacity Building Grants are meant to help our partners increase their internal staffing and capacity in order to become more sustainable and effective in their work over the long term.
