The NJHealth Study, led by a multidisciplinary research team at the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research, is the most comprehensive study to date investigating the connection between stress and mental and physical health over the course of our lifetimes. With over 800 participants already recruited, the study seeks to enroll a total of 8,000 participants from across New Jersey to examine the effects of stress experienced by diverse populations, especially groups at high risk of exposure to stressors such as immigrants, people of color, and low income and multigenerational families.
The NJHealth Study is designed to produce data, collected over time, to better understand why some people are more resilient when experiencing stressors at the individual and societal level than others, and what public policies may amplify or buffer the impact of stress on health. Participation in the study will help generate new knowledge that will help researchers inform policies to make New Jersey a healthier and more equitable place to live.
Participants are asked to take part in an in-depth interview, submit biomarker samples, and collect physical activity data. Data from other sources such as governmental program records and electronic health records will also be linked to participant data. The study is led by Joel C. Cantor, ScD, Distinguished Professor and director of the Rutgers Institute for Health’s Center for State Health Policy, and is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Rutgers Health, and the State of New Jersey. More information about the study for prospective participants, researchers, and the community can be found at https://njhealthstudy.rutgers.edu/en
Congratulations to Dr. Cantor and the IFH team for their incredible work on this important study!

Regulatory Tip of the Month: eConsent
| |
Announcing Advarra's eConsent
Advarra has recently released an eConsent solution that is embedded into eReg. This will allow you to send your study’s current informed consent form to participants electronically, and, once the consent discussion has happened, the consent can be signed by the participant and the research team using 21CRF Part 11 compliant DocuSign. The consents are then stored within eReg, which allows for remote monitoring.
The actual cost has not yet been determined but will likely be between $5 and $8 per consent, depending on volume. If you are interested, please drop us a line at clinicaltrials@rbhs.rutgers.edu

A Mobile Device URL IRL: Innovating Multisite Study Recruitment with the Clinician Study "App"

Multisite clinical research success rests with a strong study recruitment toolbox. One innovative tool that provides up-to-date study information to clinicians across study sites and referring clinics is the Clinician Study App—or CSA. The CSA functions like an app on the web browser of any mobile device. With the help of experts at the Trial Innovation Network, study teams can create a customized CSA with important information for referring participants. Given its potential for widespread, efficient distribution of study information, the CSA holds positive implications for clinician engagement, research study visibility, and study recruitment.

University Hospital Epic Go-Live:
Study-Level Processes
| |
Changes within Epic and OnCore are on the horizon with the roll-out of the Epic Research functionality in November of 2024, and the integration of OnCore and Epic next year. Click here for more information on these changes and the anticipated timeline.
With the rollout of Epic to Children's Specialized Hospital, Trinitas Regional Medical Center, University Behavioral Health Center and the Wave 6 Medical Practices on 9/28/24, RWJBH is set to launch its 6th and final major go-live wave. This massive undertaking, which began about four years ago, will ultimately enable all RWJBH acute care facilities and outpatient locations and practices (including many Rutgers Health locations) and 3 million+ patients throughout the state to be united on a single platform.
Clinical Research Pet of the Month
| |
August's clinical research pet of the month is Oliva! Her pet parent is Carmen Rodriguez, Research Project Assistant at the Rutgers Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, & Aging Research.
Carmen found Oliva in a cardboard box in a pet store in Puerto Rico, along with her siblings in 2016. The kittens were only a month old, but were already walking alone in the street, so were in desperate need of loving homes. Few eyes were interested in Carmen: She was a female and seemed sick and hungry. But, her now human father took her in his hands, and, from that moment, she was theirs.
She arrived home and immediately became the darling of the house. Oliva’s new parents took her to the vet and provided her with everything a kitten needs to be healthy. Oliva and her humans made the move to New Jersey 4 years ago where she continues to be the darling of the house. Her humans love her dearly.
