The New Orleans Saints and Tulane Urology are teaming up at East Jefferson General Hospital to raise prostate cancer awareness and provide free PSA blood tests to eligible men.
Fans can snap photos with New Orleans Saints Hall-of-Famer Rickey Jackson, former Saints Quarterback Bobby Hebert, and other NFL greats while learning prostate cancer prevention tips, risk factors and the latest treatment information from Tulane's expert doctors and researchers.
Families and men of all ages are welcome, but screening spots are limited to the first 100 eligible men. Free parking is available in the Hudson Garage, located on the west side of the hospital.

POSTDOC FUNDING: NIH MOSAIC K99 Program to Promote Faculty Diversity

The MOSAIC program is designed to facilitate the transition of promising postdoctoral researchers from diverse backgrounds into independent, research-intensive faculty careers. The program has two components: an individual career transition award for postdoctoral scholars (K99/R00) and a research education cooperative agreement (UE5) awarded to organizations to provide these scholars with additional mentoring, networking and professional development activities to support their transition to and success in independent faculty careers. The MOSAIC K99/R00 program supports researchers who have demonstrated meaningful contributions and proposed compelling future plans to promote broad participation in the biomedical research workforce.
NIH accepts applications for the MOSAIC K99/R00 award three times per year, and the next application receipt date is October 12. Please note, the MOSAIC K99/R00 award is limited to US Citizens and Permanent Residents.

Robert L. Fine Cancer Research Foundation Pancreatic Cancer Research Grant

The Robert L. Fine Cancer Research Foundation distributes two awards every other year to outstanding young scientists dedicated to basic and translational pancreatic cancer research. The grant is intended to support research projects that can be carried out in a short period of time with limited resources. The topic of the requested grant applications will be for innovative translational pancreatic cancer research that focuses on bench to bedside advances. The grant mechanism supports different types of basic and translational projects, including pilot and feasibility studies, self-contained research projects, development of new research methodology and development of new research technology. This grant does not support solely clinical research.
The length of the grant will be for two years payable in yearly installments. Pre-award costs are allowable, up to 30 days prior to the grant initiation date; however, the incurrence of pre-award costs imposes no obligation on the foundation to grant the award. Funding for awardees will start January 1, 2025.

CARES Center Pilot Project Funding

The Cancer Awareness, Research, Engagement, and Support Center invites applications for pilot and feasibility studies to address disparities across the cancer control continuum in areas characterized by persistent poverty. Persistent poverty areas are here defined as Census tracts with ≥20% of residents living in poverty for ≥30 years.
Funding
Two pilot projects will be funded. Project budgets may not exceed $50,000 per year in total costs. Funding is for one year, with a possibility to apply for an additional year of funding contingent upon availability of funds. Faculty salary support is an allowable expense.
Eligibility
Preference will be given to proposals that include at least one early-stage investigator. Early-stage investigators applying as PIs must be mentored by a senior faculty member with a strong record of NIH funding in the area related to the proposed research. Early-stage investigators will participate in training provided by the CARES Career Enhancement Core.

PROVOST'S PROOF OF CONCEPT FUND - FALL 2024
APPLICATION DEADLINE:

GRANT AMOUNT: UP TO $50,000
This grant is designed to help advance promising ideas and technologies to become market-ready.
- This is a competitive funding opportunity with minimal administrative lift.
- $50,000 will be dispersed based on a mutually agreed-upon timeline and two to three milestones.
- Projects will be judged based on technical merit and feasibility as well as commercial potential. Customer discovery and competitive intelligence must be included as part of the application. The focus is to uplift scalable technologies, products, and services.
Outside industry experts will be used to help evaluate the merit of projects.
Members of the Tulane community (faculty, staff, graduate students, PhD students, fellows and post-docs) with an invention disclosure filed or in preparation and an identified commercial application for the proposed technology or invention are welcome to apply.

Equity in Access Research Program

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) has reissued the RFP Building Evidence for Effective Interventions to Increase Therapeutic Cancer Clinical Trial Accrual: Promoting Access for Patients from Underrepresented Groups. Awards will be a maximum of $2.5 million each, over 5 years.
Specifically, they seek proposals that will implement and evaluate interventions designed to:
- Mitigate multilevel barriers to therapeutic clinical trial accrual for underrepresented groups
- Quantitatively measure the impact of these interventions on patient accrual
They are particularly interested in proposals that address systemic, institutional, and clinician-related barriers that impede clinical trial participation. It is not necessary for applicants to have previously conducted research in blood cancer.

Clinical Trial Grant Opportunity to Increase Black Patient Enrollment for Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

GRANT AMOUNT: UP TO $200,000 DIRECT COSTS/YEAR FOR TWO YEARS
To increase participation of Black men with prostate cancer in clinical trials, ACS is announcing a funding opportunity to support community oncology practices and hospitals in their efforts for clinical trial enrollment. Eligible practice-based applicants must have direct patient interaction and the capability to participate in clinical trials.
ACS will provide awardees up to $200,000 direct costs per year for two years to build the infrastructure needed to increase clinical trial enrollment. These funds may be used to support clinical staff involved in recruitment and trial enrollment as well as any infrastructure needed to engage men with prostate cancer.
Interested applicants must submit a letter of intent through ProposalCentral. Upon receipt, ACS will provide appropriate guidance to ensure applications are within the scope of this funding announcement and more information about the application process.

This NOSI invites applications proposing to conduct secondary analyses to evaluate the health effects of participation in housing-related programs using existing administratively linked datasets. Applicants may use data science, mixed methods, and other computational approaches to analyze these data. Applicants are encouraged to examine multi-level constructs that include individual and contextual factors, such as social determinants of health, (e.g., neighborhood characteristics, food insecurity, transportation, and healthcare access, etc.) as well as participation in other social services/programs to examine how these factors may interact to impact prevention, onset and progression, and/or treatment of chronic disease and other health conditions. Comorbidities involving chronic diseases, inclusive of multiple co-morbidities, may also be assessed.
Applications proposing to collect new data would not be responsive to this NOSI.

2024 Michael F. Priceman Memorial Grant

INDIRECT COSTS – 15%
The RFA is for pre-clinical or translational work for gastroesophageal cancer that will lead to a clinical trial within two years. This is to accelerate drug development and to bring new therapies to patients as quickly as possible. Up to two grants will be awarded with a completion date of two years. Grants may be supported in full or partially based on the aims of the project, novelty and feasibility.
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be employed by a non-profit academic institution. Applications will be accepted from both U.S. and non-U.S. entities.
- No applications will be accepted from post-docs, or individuals without a faculty appointment.
- We encourage interdisciplinary collaborations and welcome proposals from independent investigators at all career stages, especially those new to the field of upper GI cancers.

“Implementation" projects may have a total project cost ranging from $4 million up to but not including $20 million. Only "Design" activities may request less than $4 million, with a minimum request of $400,000 and a maximum request up to but not including $20 million.
There are no limits to the number of preliminary proposals submitted as the lead organization. Full proposals are to be submitted only if/when invited by NSF. There is no limit to participation as a partner organization or sub-awardee.

The Research Scholars Program supports any basic and clinical research limited to breast, bladder, upper gastrointestinal, or lung cancer that addresses an unmet medical need in the field of Oncology Solid Tumors.
Gilead’s Research Scholars Program selects junior faculty researchers pursuing an academic career at an institution at the time of application of up to $180,000 USD paid directly to the researchers' institution in 2 annual installments subject to Program terms and conditions, legal requirements, and applicable institutional rules.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
1. MD or PhD (or an equivalent degree) at time of award
2. Received an initial faculty appointment within the last 7 years in association with a research institution in the United States at the time of application
3. This award is intended for early career investigators only
4. A strong career interest in oncology solid tumors
5. A research mentor with extensive experience in the field of oncology solid tumors
6. Able to devote at least 30% of their professional time to research for the next two years
7. Be able to complete the proposed research within the two-year award period

Tulane will be performing network maintenance which will disrupt Louisiana Cancer Research Center network connectivity on Thursday, August 29, 6:00 - 7:00 AM.
Principal Investigators in the LCRC are asked to inform their teams of the planned outage. A follow-up email will be sent Thursday morning once Tulane Cancer Center Administration receives confirmation that the work has been completed.

American Association for Cancer Research 2025 Scientific Achievement Awards & Lectureships Nominations
(AACR) is accepting nominations for its prestigious 2025 Scientific Achievement Awards and Lectureships until Sunday, September 15, 2024.
The AACR Scientific Achievement Awards Program recognizes scientific excellence across the full spectrum of basic, translational, clinical, and epidemiological cancer research. Through its awards and lectureships, the AACR honors scientists, clinicians, and physician-scientists who have made significant contributions to our understanding of cancer diagnosis, prevention, and treatment. Individuals who are now or have been affiliated with any cancer research institution may nominate a deserving colleague for an award or lectureship.
