Moorish Sunshine by Alia Bensliman

This week on #StateoftheArtsNJ, at the New Jersey State Museum, a newly discovered collection of glass-plate negatives reveals a world in rapid transition. Grant Castner’s early documentary photographs are shown in stunning new prints revealing everyday life in and around Trenton as it was then—people shopping, working, relaxing, building new modes of transportation, and more.

Plus, celebrated choreographer Mark Morris returns to the McCarter Theatre with work from four decades. The Princeton University Art Museum’s Art@Bainbridge gallery presents the work of two Trenton-based Muslim women artists, Khalilah Sabree and Alia Bensliman.

National Piano Month

This month, we're sharing pianists from our archives.

State of the Arts profiled pianist Simone Dinnerstein back in 2008, shortly after her ground breaking recording of J.S. Bach’s Goldberg Variations hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Classical Chart. The surprise success of her self-produced CD launched her international career. Our feature was filmed at Dinnerstein’s home in Brooklyn with her family, and at SOPAC, the South Orange Performing Arts Center.
