Special Guests

We had some special guests come visit our Preschool this summer. We got to meet some furry and some not so furry friends from Greenburg Nature Center. And our neighborhood heroes stopped by. A huge shout-out to our local Hawthorne Police and Fire Departments for taking the time to visit our Pre-K class and showing us how to keep ourselves and our communities safer. Thank you for all that you do!

Staying Active

Staying active is crucial for students as it significantly enhances their overall well-being. Physical activity also boosts brain function, enhancing memory, attention, and problem-solving skills, which can lead to better academic outcomes. Encouraging students to stay active not only promotes their physical health but also fosters a positive outlook on life.

Gardening

โ€Š

The seeds of our garden are planted well before the summer program starts. But the fruits of our labor aren't savored until the summer. Besides the skills and hard work it takes to maintain all our vegetables, students who tend to the garden also learn how to market and sell their harvest.

Field Trips

Bronx Zoo

Field Trips are a great way to let students experience new things and learn about the world outside of school. Students love to be able to explore and navigate through new environments. Our HCDS Manhattan students had the time of their lives at the Bronx Zoo! ๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿฆ๐Ÿฆš๐Ÿฆœ๐Ÿ’

Lafayette BBQ

Adults from our IRA houses gather on the weekends and get to enjoy great food and each others company. Many of them enjoy taking a dip in our Lafayette in-ground pool or just hanging out and playing yard games. Their friendships and bonding are truly a wonderful sight.
