Hello NFJC Members,
This is our first newsletter of FY24. We are so excited to be hosting and connecting with you in Buffalo next month. I love my hometown of Buffalo and can’t wait to show you all that is good, and not so good, so be prepared for an exciting and engaging time here in WNY!
FY24 will be a time for reinvention and rejuvenation of NFJC but we need EACH of you to help us on this journey forward. We’ll be reaching out and taping on individual shoulders as we collective grow the Federation and I look forward to working with you by listening and being as responsive to all our needs as possible.

NFJC Conference in Buffalo, New York
Our National Conference is quickly approaching, if you haven't registered for the conference there's still time to do so.
Please note that hotel reservations need to be made by August 7 to get the special group rate. The block of rooms will be released on August 8.
The conference will be a hybrid format. Please be on the lookout for the latest schedule including presenters/speaker times so that you and your team will know when to attend/log on. Stay tuned for the final agenda. For those not able to attend in-person, calendar invites with zoom links will be sent.
Agenda:
- We will kick off the conference with a reception on Tuesday, September 5th around 6:00PM/6:30PM.
- Wednesday, September 6th will be an all day immersive experience in Buffalo, Lewiston and the Niagara Falls area.
- Thursday, September 7th will be plenary sessions all day followed by dinner. Our sessions and dinner will all take place at the hotel.
- Friday, September 8th will be full group session until 12:00PM which will wrap up the conference.

Anytown 2023
In June and July many NFJC member organizations held their annual Anytown Camps. Check out the updates below from across the country. Thank you to all member organizations for engaging with youth across the country to shape our future leaders.

Anytown Leadership Program, Inc.
In June, Anytown Leadership Program, Inc. in Arizona held their camp. This years theme was "What would a world without hate look like?" Cammy Watkins and Katie Petry from Inclusive Communities in Omaha, NE attended the camp to observe and take back ideas for their camp.

Community Tampa Bay
Community Tampa Bay held two Anytown camp sessions. The first camp took place June 26-30, 2023, and the second session took place July 10-14, 2023.

NCCJ of Greater Dayton
On June 11-16, 2023, NCCJ of Greater Dayton held their Anytown Camp. They had 46 students from all over the Greater Dayton area come together at Anytown to learn how to be change makers in their schools!

North Carolina for Community and Justice
NCCJ held two sessions of their Anytown program this summer. On June 18-23, 2023 and July 16-21, 2023, students came together to learn how to build an inclusive community.

NCCJ St. Louis
On July 23 - 29, 2023, NCCJ St. Louis held their Anytown Youth Leadership Institute.

Oklahoma Center for Community and Justice
On July 16-22, 2023, OCCJ held their Anytown Leadership Institute. Anytown Leadership Institute promotes self-confidence, leadership, and inclusion in a diverse atmosphere; the program is often described as a "life-changing” opportunity by delegates who attend.

Sandy Miller Metrotown
OneJax held their Sandy Miller Metrotown High School program on July 17-20, 2023.
In June, OneJax held their Sandy Miller Metrotown Institute for Middle School students.
The goal of Sandy Miller Metrotown Leadership Institute is to promote respect and understanding among all people. Students share ideas and feelings, discover their own unique talents, experience a variety of perspectives on diversity issues, multicultural communication, religious traditions and self-esteem.

Leadership Program for Young Woman
In July, the School & Youth department at The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio facilitated a Leadership Program for Young Women with cohorts at three Cleveland recreation centers this school year in partnership with the City of Cleveland - City Hall.
Students in grades 5-12 explored diversity, identity, inclusion, and leadership through group discussions, activities and games, and art projects.
This program engaged over 90 students during the 2022-2023 school year!

Heartland Pride Parade & Festival
On July 15, 2023, staff and volunteers represented Inclusive Communities at the 2023 Heartland Pride Parade & Festival in downtown Omaha, NE. The parade featured lavish floats, showcased dozens of LGBTQIA+-friendly organizations and brought the community together!

Diversity Korea's Take on The Little Mermaid
A column by Jihak Kim, from Diversity Korea, was published in Media Today.
The column "A New World Created by a New Mermaid" looks at the phenomenon of ridiculing and criticizing the real-life mermaid film starring Halle Bailey and talks about the challenge of opening a new world despite many tough resistance.

MDRI Golf Classic
On July 24, 2023, Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion (MRDI) held their 33rd Gold Classic. Over the past 32 years the Roundtable Golf Classic has raised more than $5 million dollars to support our work to transform communities and workplaces to overcome racism, discrimination, systemic inequities and institutional and inherent bias.

NCCJ of CT & WMA
Equity Leadership Alliance
On July 21, 2023, NCCJ of CT & WMA celebrated the inaugural commencement ceremony for the NCCJ Equity Leadership Alliance.
ELA is a 360° collaborative diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) transformative learning experience for professionals leading whole systems reform in the workplace. Congratulations to the 15 participating organizations and 30 ELA cohort members!
